Prof. Dr. Sermin Kesebir graduated from Dokuz Eyluel University Faculty of Medicine in 1995 and completed her psychiatric specialty training at Ege University Department of Psychiatry. After completing her compulsory service at Kırıkkale Training and Research Hospital, she received the title of associate professor at Adnan Menderes University in 2008. From 2009 to 2014, she served as an instructor in the Acute Psychosis Department at Erenkoey Mental and Neurological Diseases Education and Research Hospital. Since 2014, she has been a professor at the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of Uskudar University and a consulting physician in the outpatient treatment department of NPİSTANBUL Hospital.

Dr. Sermin Kesebir is a member of several professional organizations, including the Turkish Psychiatry Association- Affective Disorders Scientific Study Unit, the Abdulkadir Oezbek Psychodrama Institute, the Halime Odağ Foundation-Psychoanalytically Oriented Psychotherapies, the Bipolar Life Association, the American Psychiatric Association (APA), the International Society for Bipolar Disorders (ISBD), and the International Society for Affective Disorders (ISAD). Her main interests and areas of expertise are affective disorders (depressive disorders and bipolar disorders-manic-depressive illness), consultation psychiatry, and psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapies.

She contributed to the sections "Treatment of Depression with Somatic Symptoms" and "Treatment of Depression with Concurrent Eating Disorders" in the Guidelines for the Treatment of Depression and to the section "Diagnosis and Treatment of Bipolar Disorder Type II" in the Bipolar Disorder Scientific Study Unit's book on psychoanalytic psychotherapies, where she wrote on "Heinz Kohut (1913-1981) and Self Psychology." she also wrote on "Women and Mood Disorders" in the book Women's Life and Women's Mental Health, published by the Women's Mental Health Scientific Study Group. she has received awards for her research, including "The Involvement of Chromosome 20 in Bipolar Disorder," "The Effect of Positive Family History of Affective Temperament in Bipolar Patients and First-Degree Relatives," "Chromosomal Localization in Bipolar Disorder: Marker D2024B1," "The Effect of Lamotrigine Addition Before and After Maintenance Therapy: The Role of Serum Level," and "Does the Age of Menarche Affect the Course of Bipolar Disorder?" she has published over one hundred articles in national and international journals and has given over one hundred presentations at national and international scientific conferences.
