Prof. Dr. Yumuşhan GÜNAY was born in Hatay in 1954. He graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry at Istanbul University in 1978 as a military student. From 1978 to 1979, he received military medical training at GATA in Ankara. From 1979 to 1981, he served as a dentist at the General Staff Flag Garrison infirmary. In 1981, he passed the doctoral entrance exam administered by the Department of Maxillofacial Prosthetics and Surgery at Çapa School of Dentistry and began his doctoral research under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Nuri MUGAN on the topic “Comparison of the Physical Properties of Materials Used in the Repair of Facial Defects,” graduating in 1985. In 1985, he began working at GATA Haydarpaşa Training Hospital and continued there until 2013, serving as an assistant professor, associate professor, and professor. He spent the final five years of this tenure as the Director of the Dental Center. During the same period, he taught courses on Maxillofacial Prosthetics as a visiting faculty member at the Çapa Faculty of Dentistry. He currently serves as a Professor in the Department of Prosthetic Dentistry at the Faculty of Dentistry, Üsküdar University. He also serves as Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry and Chair of the Department of Basic Sciences at Üsküdar University.
Throughout his academic career, Yumuşhan GÜNAY has focused on the following areas:
1. Repair
of facial defects that cannot be corrected using plastic surgery methods through prosthetic approaches 2. Repair
of upper and lower jaw defects using prosthetic methods 3. Interdisciplinary collaborations in supportive applications for the surgical repair of jaw and facial defects 4. Implant applications
in defect
treatments 5. CAD/CAM designs for jaw and facial
defects 6. Invasive treatments for temporomandibular joint disorders 7. Focused on feeding and pre-surgical orthotic devices for newborns with cleft lip and palate
