Diagnostic Methods

For Advanced Diagnostic Methods;

Electroencephalography (EEG), Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and 3 Tesla MRI are used as tests in epilepsy and other neurological diseases.

EEG (Electroencephalography)

It is a test to evaluate the electrical activity of the brain. Thanks to EEG, epilepsy and its differential diagnosis can be evaluated. In the EEG department of our hospital, EEG is performed under ideal conditions during sleep and wakefulness. In the Pediatric Neurology EEG unit, a 22-channel digital electroencephalography device is used to perform awake-sleep EEG and short-term hourly monitoring.

MRI

Since MRI requires immobilization, anesthesia is required in infants, young children (0-6 years), patients with autism and mental retardation. In these patients, MRI with anesthesia is performed with the approval of the doctor. MRI scans with and without anesthesia are performed in our hospital.

3 Tesla MRI

Diagnosis of psychiatric disorders is usually based on traditional methods such as clinical interviews, history taking, psychometric tests and observation. However, in recent years, the use of neuroimaging technologies in psychiatry has increased. In this context, 3 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technology has become an important tool to study the neurological basis of psychiatric disorders.

3 Tesla MRI can create a detailed image of brain tissue using a high magnetic field. This allows structural and functional changes in the brain to be studied in more detail. Structural images can help diagnose certain psychiatric disorders by showing differences between brain regions.

Advantages of 3 Tesla MRI:

  • The internal width of the device increases patient compliance and comfort with MRI, making it possible for patients with fear of confinement or overweight patients to undergo MRI.
  • The sound reduction techniques used in the 3T device can reduce the loud noise level during the examination by up to 40 percent, providing a more comfortable experience for patients.
  • Features such as a music system and video streaming allow patients to enjoy themselves during the examination.
  • A program to prevent image distortion caused by movement, metal prostheses and implants maintains high image quality in all shots.
  • A special approach designed for children with indoor phobia or anxiety aims to help pediatric patients relax during an MRI scan. Factors such as colored lights, special images and music can distract children and help them calm down.
  • For individuals with special needs, scans can be safely performed under sedation anesthesia.
