Child Neurology

About the Department

Child Neurology investigates and treats the causes that negatively affect the child's brain development process and aims to ensure that children live better.

Diseases that Child Neurology is interested in;

  • Neurological follow-up of risky babies
  • Developmental delay,
  • Loose baby (hypotonia),
  • Headache
  • Febrile convulsion (febrile convulsion),
  • Attendance (breath-holding) seizure,
  • Feverless convulsion (afebrile convulsion),i
  • Epilepsy (epilepsy),
  • Cerebral Palsy (cerebral palsy),
  • Mental retardation and comorbid conditions,
  • Developmental disorders specific to speech and language,
  • Muscle and musculo-nerve diseases,
  • Neurometabolic diseases,
  • Movement disorders and tics,
  • Syncope fainting
  • Dizziness
  • Congenital or acquired paralysis,
  • Sleep disorders
  • Learning disabilities,
  • Neurodegenerative diseases,
  • Autism- pervasive developmental disorder,
  • Neurogenetic diseases,
  • Conditions mimicking a seizure

In which cases is it necessary to seek a specialist opinion?

Patients should be evaluated by a pediatric neurologist in cases of certain infections suffered by the mother during pregnancy, premature birth (prematurity), history of difficult delivery, history of intensive care unit stay in the neonatal period, previous central border system infections, and failure of developmental stages (mental, motor, language, social and emotional) to be observed within the expected time interval.

The main goal in the follow-up of high-risk babies is to detect neurologic problems at the earliest possible period, to take precautions and to ensure a normal neurologic development of that baby.

ADVANCED DIAGNOSTIC METHODS

Electroencephalography (EEG) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are used as tests in epilepsy and other neurological diseases.

It is an examination to evaluate the electrical activity of the brain. Thanks to EEG, epilepsy and its differential diagnosis can be evaluated. In the EEG department of our hospital, EEG is performed under ideal conditions during sleep and wakefulness. In the Pediatric Neurology EEG unit, awake-sleep EEG and short-term hourly monitoring can be performed with a 22-channel digital Electroencephalography device.

Since MRI requires immobilization, anesthesia is required for infants, young children (0-6 years), patients with autism and mental retardation. In these patients, MRI with anesthesia is performed with the approval of the doctor. MRIs with and without anesthesia are performed in our hospital.

Childhood headache is a very common complaint. Although childhood headaches often cause anxiety in parents, the majority of these headaches are due to non-dangerous diseases such as migraine. Studies have shown that nearly half of primary school children have headache complaints from time to time. This rate increases even more during adolescence. Migraine-type headaches may start in primary school and their frequency increases towards adolescence. Studies have found that the frequency of migraine in adolescents is around 20% For more detailed information: https: //npistanbul.com/cocukluk-donemi-bas-agrilari Please visit our page.
