He was born in 1952 in Elazığ. He completed his primary and secondary education at TED Ankara College, graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1978, trained in the Psychiatry Clinic of the same faculty and became a specialist in 1983.
He did his military service in Kyrenia Military Hospital, compulsory service in Manisa Mental Health and Diseases Hospital, and as a result of the exam he won, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor to Anadolu University Faculty of Medicine Psychiatry Clinic in 1987, and as a result of his studies and the exam he took, he became an Associate Professor in the same clinic in 1990. He established the Neurosis Clinic of this hospital and managed it for 15 years. After 2006, he managed the general psychiatry clinic of the same hospital. 191 psychiatry residents were recruited during his period as a faculty member and clinical chief.
He trained 45 neurology and 122 family medicine residents and helped them become specialists.
Between 2008-2011, he was a member of the Observation Specialization Department of the Forensic Medicine Institute. In 2011, after his retirement, he became a professor at Üsküdar University and still continues his studies at this university.
He has more than 100 publications published in national and international journals, he has participated in many national and international congresses as a speaker and presented papers throughout his professional life. He is married and has two children.
He is the founder and president of Anxiety Disorders Research and Treatment Association. He is a member of Turkish Psychiatric Association Turkish Neuropsychiatric Association Group Psychotherapies Association Biological Psychiatry Association and American Psychiatric Association.
He is a member of the advisory board of many scientific medical journals.
