Occupational Therapy (Occupational Therapy)

Occupational Therapy (Occupational Therapy)

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy (occupational therapy) is used in the treatment of various diseases. Among these, it is used in disorders such as epilepsy, Down syndrome, attention deficit and hyperactivity and autism.

In our occupational therapy hospital; Occupational therapy studies including music, arts and crafts, sports and marbling art are carried out in order to reduce the pathologies of the clients, to help them to maintain their health and socialize, to help them develop their self-confidence, various skills and talents, to encourage them to use these skills and talents in daily life, to gain awareness that the efficient use of their free time will increase the quality of life.

On the basis of occupational therapy, psychologically, when people are mentally and physically busy with a job, when they give all their attention to their work, they naturally experience a relaxation, they live the moment, so it is important to evaluate free time with different activities. Artistic activities and sports activities are also used as a means of communication and often the result is a sense of stress, tension, purification and renewal.

Creativity is supported by occupational therapy (occupational therapy), music, painting and marbling because creativity is the ability to solve problems and create new ideas, to look at the same thing as others but to see something different and to create a new product, to ask questions, to be brave, to think differently, to use different techniques to solve problems and to have a high imagination. For these reasons, creativity is important in complex societies full of problems.

People cannot develop themselves if they cannot be nourished by art. Art is a stage in the interaction of man and nature. It has a social character. Art is a phenomenon that humanizes life. Art can be used to create and strengthen the boundaries of the personality, to establish connections between inner experiences and external reality. Allowing clients to reflect their problems outward through painting, talking about their paintings and relaxing them is one of the therapy methods. In our Occupational Therapy Center, our clients are taught different occupational therapies in different rooms to support their treatment.

Our interests may be music, painting, sports, dance, photography, ceramics, model making, reading books, gardening, poetry, story writing, cooking, sewing, handicrafts, these occupations allow us to get away from daily work, hustle and bustle, to do something for ourselves, to take a break to relieve the tiredness and tension of the day.

Occupational therapy activities are divided into various therapies. Occupational therapy studies continue with the therapy method suitable for the person.

Music Therapy

Occupational therapy music therapy is a therapy method in which music and music activities are used to meet the physical, psychological, social and mental needs of people. Music therapy includes singing, rhythm, listening to music and playing instruments. Music is as old as the history of mankind, singing is especially important because in the most primitive stages, there was the human voice and then there was singing.

Listening to music has a peaceful and tranquil effect on the brain, and learning to play a favorite instrument, regardless of one's age, develops and enriches the personality. Music makes one aware of oneself, increases the power of emotional expression, calms and relaxes by affecting brain waves, and is therefore also used for mental and physical relaxation. Research on music and the brain shows that rhythm studies help release hormones such as serotonin, dopamine, adrenaline, etc. and regulate respiratory rhythm and pulse.

It is written in history books that mental illnesses were treated with music ages ago. In ancient civilizations such as Rome, China and Egypt, music was used in the treatment of diseases. Islamic scholars such as Farabi and Ibn-i Sina used music for therapeutic purposes and conducted various studies on the subject. During the Ottoman period, music was used for treatment and therapy in healing centers.

Image Therapy

With occupational therapy painting therapy, it is aimed to enable the clients to express and share their subconscious emotions and inner worlds that they are afraid to say, afraid, unable to express verbally, and perhaps not even aware of themselves, and to gain awareness about themselves.

The works made on different papers, wood and canvas using various paints such as oil, acrylic, watercolor, watercolor, pastel, dry paint, sometimes freehand and sometimes with a subject are evaluated and shared in individual or group therapies.

The production process and the content of the paintings made by the clients are important, not their aesthetic value. When the paintings are appreciated, people's self-confidence and self-esteem increase. In the absence of verbal communication, emotions such as anger, anxiety, sadness, helplessness, pain, etc. can be expressed in spontaneous, improvised paintings, so painting can be a starting point for both the therapist and the client.

Ebru Therapy

Occupational therapy marbling therapy: Marbling is a very old Turkish decorative art that dates back to the 9th century and has survived to the present day with the master-apprentice relationship. In our hospital, it is applied for therapeutic purposes with traditional marbling materials. Marbling is technically assisted, but care is taken not to prevent the free expression of the creativity and naturalness that comes from within.

It is necessary to observe the continuity of marbling therapies and the attitudes of the clients during the therapy process. Before evaluating the marbling made by a client, many facts such as whether the client's participation in this work is continuous, whether they can adapt with the group, whether they can actively participate until the end of the work without getting bored are taken into consideration. It is difficult to think of anything bad while marbling, because it is not a static activity, there is movement, the colors and patterns in the water are constantly changing.

Ebru requires patience, and the fact that one is not in complete control teaches one to "accept what is". Ebru takes the person out of his/her daily life and provides soul serenity.

The marbling practitioner can express his/her current feelings and thoughts in the form of colors and patterns, gains a brand new perspective on himself/herself, and when he/she concentrates his/her attention on the water and the movement of the colors, his/her tension decreases and he/she loses track of time.

Ceramic

Ergotherapy ceramic work: The history of ceramics is as old as human history. By combining the relaxing properties of clay, the material of ceramics, with creativity, a therapy is carried out to explore forms. In addition to the extraordinary feeling of creating a new object, these works take people away from the flow of everyday life and provide relaxation. Through clay, our patients are given the opportunity to express themselves with a different non-verbal technique.
