One of the most common obsessions is "contamination" and "contamination". "In order for us to call something a 'disease', some aspects of our lives must be dysfunctional," said experts, stating that the constant washing of hands of a person who thinks he is dirty on the bus disrupts functionality and drew attention to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

Specialized from Üsküdar University NPISTANBUL Hospital. Psychologist Aziz Görkem Çetin made important evaluations about obsessions.

"One of the most common obsessions is 'contamination' and 'contamination'," said Aziz Görkem Çetin, "In order for us to call something a 'disease', some aspects of our lives must be dysfunctional. For example, if an individual who thinks that he/she is dirty because he/she touched on the bus shows hand washing behavior over and over again, this can be considered as a point that disrupts functionality."

Feeling of guilt underlies obsessions

"If we need to explain obsession in a more scientific format, we can also refer to it as 'Obsessive Compulsive Disorder'. It is possible to separate obsessions as our thoughts and compulsions as the behaviors we do to relieve our obsessive thoughts." Psychologist Çetin,

"It is also right to look at obsessions from another perspective. There are connections between obsessions and our unconscious processes. These connections can be described as a process that extends from childhood to today. Every psychological point in this process can form the connection. Such as our experiences, traumas... It is not correct to explain obsessions or a human condition with a single point. A causality can be found by evaluating the person from biological, psychological and social perspectives. It is possible to say that most obsessive thoughts are also caused by subconscious feelings of guilt. For this reason, studying subconscious processes will help to analyze the reasons that trigger the individual."

"We are not responsible if we do not put our obsessive thoughts into behavior"

Uzm. Psychologist Aziz Görkem Çetin said, "Most of us think the same things in the first place with people with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. The only distinction here is that the individual without OCD, after dealing with real information, the individual's anxiety and suspicion passes. But we observe that some of the worrisome thoughts of individuals with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder do not go away and do not relax even though they have access to information."

"The difference of obsessive thoughts is that they are thoughts that come impulsively, involuntarily, come back repetitively and cause distress to the person. For this reason, the individual may even show behaviors that are thought to be meaningless in order to get rid of this situation, that is, to get rid of it from their minds. I use the following slogan in my meetings with my clients: "We are not responsible for our obsessive thoughts unless we act on them.

Psychotherapy plays a big role in the treatment of OCD

The treatment of OCD is pharmacological and psychological and should be carried out simultaneously. The individual should receive support from a psychiatrist and psychologist for this treatment process. Psychotherapy plays an important role in this process. It is possible to say that two schools are frequently used in the psychotherapy process. Cognitive behavioral therapy and psychodynamic therapies will contribute to this process. But first of all, before the techniques and treatments, the individual should understand the fluctuations in the process and should remember that there may be thoughts that they cannot succeed and that they should continue the treatment process decisively."
