Attending the 12th National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Congress in Antalya, psychiatry specialist Prof. Dr. Sermin Kesebir talked about the relationship between attachment and addiction. Pointing out the importance of the child-parent relationship formed during childhood, Kesebir warned, "Insecure attachment is a risk factor for addiction as well as for many mental illnesses."

Üsküdar University NPISTANBUL Hospital experts are participating in the 12th National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Congress held in Antalya between November 29 and December 2, 2018.

The most up-to-date information on addiction and new treatment methods are shared at the congress organized by Erenköy Mental and Neurological Diseases Training and Research Hospital AMATEM and Health Sciences University BAUMER (Addiction Prevention Application and Research Center) at Susesi Luxury Resort in Antalya.

He explained the relationship between attachment and addiction

NPISTANBUL Hospital Psychiatry Specialist Prof. Dr. Sermin Kesebir talked about the relationship between addiction and attachment in her presentation titled "Analysis of Attachment and Addiction Phenomenology".

Prof. Dr. Sermin Kesebir said, "Attachment is the reflection of the parent-child relationship, which is internalized in the early stages of life, in our relationships in adult life and with an optimistic interest in the other person" and added, "Insecure attachment is a risk factor for addiction as well as for many mental illnesses. Avoidant attachment has been shown to be predictive of addictions. Attachment can be differentiated as secure and insecure developmentally and can be damaged after traumas such as deception, abuse or loss. The mourning and repair process may end with an addiction."

Addiction is an individual's relationship with himself/herself

Prof. Dr. Sermin Kesebir said, "Alcohol and substance use disorders, behavioral addictions such as internet, social media, shopping and addictions in relationships are attachment disorders, in other words, inability to connect. In this sense, addiction is a form of relationship with oneself."

Addiction and treatment methods are discussed

NPISTANBUL Hospital AMATEM Coordinator Prof. Dr. Nesrin Dilbaz will make a presentation on "Addiction and Risk Factors in the World and in Our Country" in the session titled "Treatment Methods in Addiction". In the session titled "Current Situation in Behavioral Addictions" chaired by Prof. Dr. Nesrin Dilbaz, NPISTANBUL Hospital Psychiatry Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cemal Onur Noyan will discuss "Treatment in Virtual Behavior Addictions".

The place of family in addiction treatment will be discussed
