With this body perception disorder, the individual may want to undergo aesthetic surgery. The feeling of insecurity about how the person looks can become obsessive over time. Aesthetics, as a word, is at the top of Maslow's triangle of needs. In fact, when all emotional needs are met, we now encounter aesthetics of life. Being interested in all visual arts, being interested in people, being able to help others, these are at the top of the pyramid of needs. However, we have a different perception when it comes to aesthetics. In fact, real aesthetics is a different perspective coming from the Renaissance.

What are the Psychological Causes of Aesthetic Addiction?

The fact that an individual is addicted to aesthetic surgeries and feels a psychological pressure as if he/she has to constantly change his/her appearance is a situation that should be paid attention to. We can list the psychological reasons why a person becomes addicted to aesthetic surgery as follows;
Body dysmorphic disorder: This disease is considered as a behavioral disorder. People who complain of this condition; they feel inadequate, weak, and ugly. Although this is a very rare psychiatric problem, many people want to undergo aesthetic surgery because of this behavioral disorder. Individuals with body dysmorphic disorder have emotional difficulties because they see their own shape as defective, even if there is no problem with their body in daily life.
Obsessive-compulsive disorder: It is a form of obsessive behavior shaped by repetitive thoughts and obsessive behavior. These individuals obsess over a part of their body and think that part is so bad that these bad thoughts push them to do something. At this point, aesthetic addiction also develops.
According to experts; people who do not like their bodies may actually be trying to improve their negative self-perception by changing their appearance with surgical procedures. In fact, even if these individuals have surgical procedures, their psychological problems continue, so their desire to have surgery and their efforts towards this situation will continue.

Does Dissatisfaction Lead to Aesthetic Addiction?

When it comes to aesthetic addiction, we can also call it a body perception disorder. It is a situation related to finding a flaw in oneself, no matter how smooth the person is. These patients are the ones who pose the most problems to specialists, because no matter what you do, they are not satisfied. This dissatisfaction is not only valid for the facial aesthetic operation, it can be related to the whole body. Such situations may arise when the person does not find himself/herself sufficient, when he/she is not satisfied with himself/herself. What stands out here is the person's anxiety of being liked, the anxiety of being popular.
The criterion for being famous on social media is not being very beautiful. However, it is a very wrong perception to think and behave in this way. It is quite wrong to undergo operations such as removing the cheek muscles and removing the molars in order to have sunken cheeks. As long as people are not at peace with themselves about life, they start to play with their bodies as long as they are not satisfied within themselves.

Who Does Body Perception Disorder Affect?

Body perception disorder affects both men and women. An individual suffering from body image disorder spends hours every day thinking about their appearance or looking at themselves in the mirror.
