Üsküdar University NPISTANBUL Hospital Neurology Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Barış Metin gave important warnings about "sleep" to people who are preparing to go on a long journey before the holiday.
Most traffic accidents are caused by lack of sleep
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Barış Metin made the following suggestions for drivers who will take a long journey after Ramadan:
"First of all, I recommend them to get a good night's sleep. A significant portion of traffic accidents are caused by insomnia. Individuals with obstructive sleep apnea should not drive until these disorders are treated. In sleep apnea, sleep is interrupted by respiratory events at night, resulting in continuous daytime sleepiness. This increases the risk of accidents."
If you feel sleepy, do not continue driving!
Driving without a break for a long time should be avoided. You should drive for a maximum of 4.5 hours without a break and should not drive for more than 9 hours in 1 day. On night journeys, especially if you feel sleepy, stop immediately and change the driver. If there is no other driver, a short nap will cause the sleepiness to disappear."

How many breaks should be taken every hour?
Üsküdar University NPISTANBUL Hospital Neurology Specialist Assoc. Dr. Barış Metin concluded his words as follows:
"The Road Traffic Regulation has determined the time that can be driven without a break as 4.5 hours. In 24 hours, the total driving time should not exceed 9 hours. A driver who drives for 9 hours with a break should take an 11-hour sleep and rest break."
