Emine Bulut, who was stabbed to death by her ex-husband in front of her 10-year-old daughter in Kırıkkale, has once again brought violence against women to the agenda. Stating that a violent person is definitely not healthy, experts point out that the person who witnesses violence or is subjected to violence is the one who inflicts violence. Experts emphasize that violence is a learned behavior pattern.
Emine Bulut, 38, who was stabbed by her ex-husband Fedai Baran in front of her 10-year-old daughter in Kırıkkale, could not be saved and died. The images of Emine Bulut wailing "I don't want to die" and her daughter crying "Mom, please don't die" brought Turkey to its feet.
They may have personality problems
Üsküdar University NPISTANBUL Hospital Psychiatry Specialist Asst. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sinem Zeynep Metin said that psychopathological factors can be found under violent incidents. Asst. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sinem Zeynep Metin stated that people who turn to violence, commit violence or commit similar murders may have problems with their personalities.
Assist. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sinem Zeynep Metin said, "What is psychopathology? People who are prone to violence may have problems with their personalities. People who commit such murders and acts of violence may have antisocial personality disorder, narcissistic personality disorder. There may be a personality that has difficulty in establishing relationships, or in more severe psychiatric disorders, a person who is under the influence of the disease may turn to violence."
Psychopathic personalities do not have a conscience gene
Pointing out that psychopathic personalities do not have a conscience gene, Assist. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sinem Zeynep Metin said, "What is the psychology of people with such violent tendencies? The first one may be the absence of the conscience gene, which is also seen in psychopathic personalities. We know that the region of the brain related to conscience does not work in this personality type. These people may be under the influence of substance abuse. With substance addiction, they may tend to behave in an uncontrolled manner. Sometimes people who use alcohol or substances may develop delusions of jealousy, especially towards their spouses, in the later stages of their illness. Thoughts such as 'This woman belongs to me', 'She cannot be with anyone else but me' may emerge. We can consider violence as a form of behavior by people who have been exposed to violence, who have learned violence as a coping and problem-solving mechanism and who have grown up in such a family environment."
Violence is learned and should be treated
Emphasizing that a violent person is definitely not healthy, Asst. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sinem Zeynep Metin said the following
"If a person who commits violence regrets it afterwards, it means that he/she has been exposed to it in the past, learned it as a coping method and sometimes applies it involuntarily and uncontrollably and then regrets it. We cannot say that a person who is absolutely healthy in daily life, who seems to have good social cohesion in social life, but who inflicts violence on his/her spouse and children at home, or mobbing the person under him/her at work is healthy. Violence is definitely not something to be normalized. Violence is not related to education; well-educated people can also be violent. It is not related to one's knowledge, manners and financial means. It is a learned behavior pattern. Some people are genetically predisposed to violence, either from birth or as a result of illness. This is a condition that must be treated. Under no circumstances can this be considered nominal."
Violence against the weak
Assist. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sinem Zeynep Metin drew attention to the fact that the perpetrator of violence does not only inflict violence on women, but also on those in his power, including children and animals.
Stating that the girl who witnessed the murder in Kırıkkale should be treated properly and the support of her close environment is important, Assist. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sinem Zeynep Metin said, "It will be very difficult for the child to overcome the trauma she has experienced. Family support is very important with proper treatment and therapy. If he establishes a proper and healthy relationship with individuals such as grandmother, uncle, aunt or aunt who will care for him in the family, if he receives treatment and therapy, the effects of the trauma he has experienced can be alleviated."
Assist. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sinem Zeynep Metin noted that the person who has been exposed to violence or witnessed violence may continue his/her life in a timid, timid and socially avoidant manner, and psychiatric diseases may occur in his/her later life.
