Neuropsychology studies the relationship between the brain and behavior. In the neuropsychology laboratory, various psychological measurement and evaluation methods related to brain functions and psychological states are used.

Psychological tests are used to get to know the individual, to obtain concrete information about his/her abilities and performance, and to plan studies in those areas by determining the areas where he/she needs improvement in the light of this information. Psychological tests minimize the margin of error in vocational orientation, job placement, education and training or in determining the most appropriate treatment methods by determining the current condition of the person.

The ability of tests to give meaningful and accurate results depends on the standardization of the test, the determination of norms, validity and reliability studies. Another important issue is that they should be administered by psychologists who have undergone test training and gained experience. It is important to evaluate the test data correctly, to be able to make meaningful interpretations from the results and to be able to make recommendations. A well-trained test specialist can evaluate the technical qualities of the tests and use the test(s) that are most appropriate for the purpose and the individual and whose psychometric qualities have reached the highest level. In the neuropsychology laboratory, for this purpose, the literature is followed and information is constantly updated.
Psychological tests can be divided into two general groups: objective (psychometric) and subjective (projective).

Psychological tests can be divided into two general groups: objective (psychometric) and subjective (projective).

In terms of their content, tests can be categorized under 3 headings. 1) General Intelligence, 2) Aptitude-skills, 3) Personality tests

Psychological tests can vary in the way they are administered. There are paper-and-pencil tests, face-to-face tests with the practitioner and nowadays computerized tests.

COMPUTERIZED CLINICAL DIAGNOSTIC TESTS

Vienna Test System:

The Schuhfried Diagnostic Scales in the Vienna Test System are computerized. This includes Cognitive Tests that measure abilities such as perception, understanding, comprehension, judgment, intelligence, memory and attention.

What is the COGBAT test

COGBAT (Cognitive Basic Assessment) is a part of the Vienna Test System. The COGBAT test set is a computerized test battery used to determine the cognitive status of individuals with neurological and/or mental disorders.

The COGBAT test set provides assessment of the following three cognitive dimensions.

  • Attention
  • Memory
  • Executive Functions

COGBAT (Cognitive Basic Assessment): The cognitive test battery includes the following subtests.

  • TMT - L BTA - Information processing speed
  • WAF intrinsic - Alertness
  • WAF cross-modal - Divided attention
  • FGT RLVA - Figural long-term memory
  • FGT RKVA - Figural short-term memory
  • FGT LS - Total learning, formal (Learning total)
  • FGT RW - Recognition, formal (Correct recognition)
  • TMT-L BTB - Cognitive flexibility
  • NBV - Verbal working memory
  • TOL-F - Planning ability
  • INHIB - Response Inhibition

The COGNIPLUS cognitive rehabilitation system, which includes the training module corresponding to each dimension measured in the COGBAT test set, is used for cognitive rehabilitation of difficulties detected as a result of test administration.

COGNIPLUS Rehabilitation System is a computerized training battery used for the training of cognitive functions. It includes training modules for attention functions, executive functions, memory, spatial processing and visual motor functions.

Before starting the training, a careful assessment allows us to identify strengths and areas in need of improvement. Correctly identifying areas in need of training makes training effective and efficient. Progress in training is also assessed not based on subjective observations, but by using the parallel forms of the initial tests in COGBAT.

In which centers can this test be applied?

Although there are other institutions in our country that use the Vienna Test system mostly for psychotechnical evaluations or clinical purposes, the COGBAT test set is the most up-to-date version of this system and I can say that we are the first institution to use it. What is important is not the scores obtained by measuring any test, but the clinical evaluation of the needs of the person by a team of experts from neurology/psychiatry/psychology disciplines within a multidisciplinary approach. This approach is applied in our hospital and outpatient clinics.

- SPM - Raven's Standard Progressive Matrices (Logical Reasoning Test)
- CPM - Raven's Colored Progressive Matrices (Logical Reasoning Test)
- COG - Cognitrone (Attention & Concentration Test)
- DAUF - Sustained Attention Test
- NVLT - Non-Verbal Learning Test

T.O.V.A. (Test Of Variables of Attention Continuous Performance Test):

A computerized continuous performance test that measures attention and impulsivity. It is not affected by language. It has two 10.3 minute sections, total 21.6 minutes. It has a normative database for ages 4-80.

Areas of use

  • -In the assessment of attention
  • -Measurement of response after a test dose of medication
  • - Measuring the response to different doses of drugs and finding the optimum dose
  • -Measuring response to treatment in the long term
  • -As part of a cognitive check-up
