What is Gluten and Which Foods Contain It?

Recent studies have shown that consuming gluten-free foods improves overall health. People who eat a gluten-free diet feel more energetic and help to lose weight. Maintaining a gluten-free diet just to lose weight without a health requirement can lead to serious physical and mental problems.

Gluten is found in grains such as wheat, barley and rye. It can cause digestive problems in some people. Gluten , a vegetable protein, is found in pastries such as bread, pasta, bulgur, semolina, cakes, pastries, pies and beverages containing wheat and barley. People with celiac disease, gluten intolerance and allergic reactions to wheat should not consume these foods unless there is a statement such as 'gluten-free' on the box.

Wheat is added to processed foods. Therefore, almost all such foods contain gluten . Individuals who are sensitive to gluten should take into account the warnings on the back of the package before consuming such foods.

What is a Gluten-Free Diet?

Gluten diet is applied for treatment purposes. People with celiac disease, gluten intolerance and allergic reactions to wheat follow this diet. It aims to end health problems caused by gluten consumption. People who want to eat gluten-free for a healthy diet can also follow this diet. Unprocessed meat, fruits and vegetables do not contain gluten. There is no set amount of gluten that can be consumed daily. Quinoa, potatoes, soy sauce, brown rice, oats, corn, seafood, chicken, eggs, fruits and vegetables are safe. Apart from these; there are products that require flour. These products; soy, almond, potato, pea and coconut flour can be used.
Gluten-free products are marked 'gluten-free' in a color contrasting with the color of the packaging, along with the name of the foodstuff. Gluten-free foods are labeled 'Gluten content does not exceed 20 milligrams/kilogram'. Products must have the phrase 'To be used on doctor's advice' in a color that is different from the color of the package and immediately noticeable.
