The tiredness of a year is relieved with a 10-day vacation. Stating that a productive summer vacation requires resting both physically and mentally, experts point out that short 3-4 day vacations create more stress. According to experts, a 10-day vacation should be taken to relieve a year's fatigue.
Üsküdar University NPISTANBUL Hospital Psychiatry Specialist Dr. Mahir Yeşildal said that it is necessary to spend the holiday efficiently and rest physically and spiritually. Stating that the summer season means a holiday especially for employees, Dr. Mahir Yeşildal said that the holiday must be spent efficiently.
DURATION OF VACATION IS VERY IMPORTANT
"The body and soul need to rest on vacation," said Dr. Mahir Yeşildal, noting that the duration of the holiday is also very important:
"Staying in a holiday village for 3 nights and 4 days does not mean taking a vacation, we need an average of at least 10 days of vacation in order for our brain to reset, so to speak, to relieve the stress of the year, to renew itself and to prepare for a new year. After a 4-5 day vacation, we realize that we actually start work without getting enough rest. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to this period. 3-4 day vacations do not contribute much to the person, vacations under 10 days are not very effective. It is necessary to take care to rest on vacation. If you say you are going to have fun and spend the night with two hours of sleep, this is not a vacation. When you return to your office, school or work, a new stress is added to the stress of the last year."
EVERYONE'S UNDERSTANDING OF VACATION IS DIFFERENT
Dr. Mahir Yeşildal, who recommends that people do the things they love and enjoy in order to relax and rest psychologically during the summer vacation, stated that this varies from person to person.
"One does what one likes. Some people like the sea and sand. Some consider vacation as lying in a hammock, reading a book and sleeping. Some go to their village and work in the vineyard and garden with their relatives. This is a vacation for them. Childhood memories, visiting relatives, visiting people they haven't seen for a long time is also a form of vacation. Some people like cultural tours. Looking at an unfinished church in Barcelona for hours can relax them mentally."
Stating that there is a holiday understanding pumped by the consumer culture, Dr. Mahir Yeşildal said, "According to this holiday understanding, families should go to the pool and the sea at certain times of the year and rest somewhere, but there is no such thing. The person can choose a vacation in the way he can rest, how he can remove toxins and stress hormones."
OPEN BUFFET CULTURE INCREASES STRESS
Stating that changes in diet during the holiday also affect mental health, Dr. Mahir Yeşildal made the following recommendations:
"There is an open buffet culture in the classically imposed holiday understanding, which is another factor that increases stress. Because we now know some things very clearly that nutrition and mental health are very related to each other. This is the most important reason why the intestines are called the second brain or the emotional brain. What happens during vacation periods? Normal eating habits are deviated from. Most of the time, fried and grilled food is eaten, which leads to disruption of the flora. Three to four days after returning from vacation, there are cases of people going to the hospital with diarrhea and nausea. Therefore, when going on vacation, it is necessary to pay attention to the foods and diet consumed and not to go out of the routine too much."
