What is Transcranial Brain Photobiomodulation (t-PBM)?

Transcranial Brain Photobiomodulation (t-PBM), is a method that uses light therapy to improve brain functions and treat various neurological disorders. This treatment method is based on the principle of applying low-level light waves to specific regions of the brain using laser or LED light sources. Light energy is absorbed by the mitochondria in the cells, triggering biochemical reactions and improving cellular metabolism.

t-PBM is a safe, effective, and easy-to-use new-generation brain stimulation device. It features patented transcranial-intranasal technology. It offers a significant advantage for the comprehensive brain stimulation of the Default Mode Network. In Turkey, it can currently be applied by obtaining the consent of patients and their relatives.

How is Transcranial Brain Photobiomodulation (t-FNS) Applied?

The Transcranial Brain Photobiomodulation (t-FNS) device is applied by delivering light energy to the brain and the intranasal region. This process targets different regions of the brain, allowing the light energy to penetrate the tissues. The user-friendly device is applied at specific intervals, and the treatment process is completed.

In Which Conditions and Diseases is t-FNS Used?

The Transcranial Brain Photobiomodulation (t-FNS) device is generally used for the following conditions and diseases:

  • Dementia: It is effective in alleviating the symptoms of dementia, which is characterized by memory loss and a decline in cognitive functions.
  • Alzheimer's: This device can slow down the progression of Alzheimer's disease and improve the quality of life of patients.
  • Traumatic Brain Injury: By using t-FNS in the treatment of brain trauma, the healing process of brain tissue can be accelerated.
  • Parkinson's: It can help alleviate motor function disorders associated with Parkinson's disease.
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): It can be used to alleviate PTSD symptoms and help patients achieve a better psychological state.
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder: It can contribute to the development of social and cognitive abilities in individuals with autism spectrum disorder.

What are the Benefits Provided by the t-FNS Device?

The Transcranial Brain Photobiomodulation (t-FNS) device delivers light energy to the brain tissue at a frequency of 10 Hz or 40 Hz. These frequencies are similar to the alpha and gamma brain waves in electroencephalography. Alpha waves are associated with the brain's resting state and support mental coordination, awareness, and learning. Gamma brain waves, on the other hand, are associated with arousal, problem-solving, and focus.

These frequencies help alleviate the symptoms of neurological disorders by regulating brain activity. Additionally, t-FNS therapy supports cellular healing by increasing the energy production of brain cells. This can improve overall brain health and cognitive functions.

Which Patient Groups are Suitable for the t-FNS Device?

The Transcranial Brain Photobiomodulation (t-FNS) device and the treatment it offers can be safely applied for conditions deemed appropriate by physicians. Our clients must first be evaluated by a specialist physician to benefit from this treatment. For our clients aged 18 and under, approval from 2 specialist physicians is required.

Adult patients can start treatment if found suitable after a neurological evaluation. Additionally, this treatment method is also suitable for patients with chronic brain disorders and can help alleviate symptoms.

How Does the t-FNS Treatment Process Work?

The treatment process begins with the initial evaluation of our client, and treatment commences for those of our clients who are deemed suitable. Before the treatment starts, an INFORMED CONSENT FORM, which explains all processes related to the treatment and obtains their consent, is collected from the client or the client's relatives with a wet signature.

The responsible physician determines the treatment protocol based on the client's complaints and starts the treatment. Throughout the treatment process, interim evaluations and concluding evaluations are conducted to monitor the process.

Each treatment session is adjusted according to the client's needs, and results are reviewed as the treatment progresses. Thus, optimal results are achieved throughout the treatment process, and the client's general health status is continuously monitored.

Are There Any Side Effects of t-FNS Treatment?

There are no reported side effects of the Transcranial Brain Photobiomodulation (t-FNS) device. However, it is important to be under physician supervision throughout the treatment process. As with any treatment method, the treatment plan must be established by taking individual differences and specific health conditions into consideration. Acting in accordance with the physicians' recommendations increases the effectiveness of the treatment and minimizes potential risks. Therefore, regular physician check-ups must be performed during t-FNS treatment.

What Are the Alternative Treatments?

If t-FNS treatment is not applied, r-TMS, t-DCS, or ECT applications can be performed. The suitability of these alternatives to the medical and mental condition of the patient is determined through a discussion between the doctor and the patient and/or the patient's relatives.
