THE PSYCHOLOGICAL SIDE OF ADDICTION
Regarding the psychological aspect of addiction, proceeding from the fact that man is a social being and examining human psychology scientifically, we conclude that chemicals or other addictive elements that alter a person's mental life produce different outcomes in the life of every individual.
When evaluated from a psychological perspective, addiction initially gives pleasure to individuals, but these momentary pleasures gradually cause mental disorders, causing the will to spin out of control and the mind to become dysfunctional.
This mental disorder manifests itself by infiltrating a person's normal life and behaviors, resulting in a decrease in self-care and withdrawal from social life. By weakening human adaptability, it drives individuals who cannot continue their work and school life toward failures.
Although all the effects of addiction affect each other in a chain reaction and yield different results from person to person in different areas of their lives, in fact, due to the effect of addiction on psychology, it funnels individuals onto a single likely path, which is the path of failure.
In addition to the aforementioned failures in work, school, and social life, by disrupting the anger control mechanism in individuals, it leads to unnecessary arguments, causes addicted individuals to create social problems, and triggers anxiety and sudden outbursts of anger, causing individuals to encounter legal problems as well.
When the cause-and-effect relationships we have explained are evaluated, although addiction is examined behaviorally, socially, and biologically, we can see that the "psychological side of addiction" in every individual is actually the aspect that affects people the most and causes them the most harm.
In evaluations made regarding the psychological side of addiction: the onset of addiction, the duration of remaining addicted, the treatment process of addiction, and the post-treatment process must be reviewed comprehensively together, and a general conclusion should be reached in this manner. During the treatment process of addiction, in alcohol and substance addiction treatment centers (AMATEM) affiliated with hospitals, addiction can be resolved through medication assistance and individual therapy carried out together with the patient, as well as by applying group therapies to achieve a real result. The necessity of continuing the addiction treatment process through doctor and psychologist interviews by continuing outpatient treatment for individuals whose inpatient treatment has been concluded demonstrates how much sensitivity the psychological side of addiction requires.
