Stating that there are various studies on the health effects of wireless internet, experts draw attention to the precautions to be taken. Experts especially recommend that there should be no modem in the room where children sleep and recommend turning off the modem at night.
NPISTANBUL Hospital Neurology Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Barış Metin said that many studies have been conducted on the health effects of wireless internet use and electromagnetic waves that have entered our lives with technology, and that researches are still ongoing.
Noting that electromagnetic waves are absorbed by tissues and this causes various changes in the body, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Barış Metin said, "Until today, the safety of the wireless internet system and mobile phones has been measured with a system called sar value. There is a sar value on cell phones. There are various quotas that the European Union and the United States maintain on this issue. The sar value has always been calculated according to the heat absorbed by the tissue, in other words, it was tried to determine whether it heats the tissue or not, in other words, its thermal effect was measured. The studies conducted so far and recent publications reveal that these signals make many changes in the tissue other than heat. When we examine the publications on this subject, it has been determined that wifi signals cause damage to tissues, disrupt tissue genetics, reduce sperm count, cause infertility especially in men, cause attention concentration problems, and disrupt learning in children."
New security borders are needed
Noting that the current regulations do not show these damages caused by magnetic waves, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Barış Metin said, "The damage caused by the wifi signal is beyond heating. Therefore, new security norms are needed. In addition, if we try to monitor the wifi networks around from the cell phone where we are now, there are many networks. This means we are exposed to too many electromagnetic signals. Studies show that these signals have harmful effects on many issues such as attention, learning, aging, sperm quality and infertility, and currently active regulations do not sufficiently consider these damages."
Noting that the studies conducted on human health on this subject are not detailed, most of these studies are studies on animals, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Barış Metin stated that these studies show that the wifi signal seriously impairs learning and that these studies should be expanded.
Keep the modem away from children
Noting that some precautions can be taken especially to protect children, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Barış Metin said, "It is important to keep the modem away from children at home. I recommend turning off the modem when it is not in use, especially at night. The neighbor's modem will not cause much damage, but it is absolutely necessary not to keep the modem in the child's room or close to the child's room. It should be placed far away from the child's room."
Can lead to chronic fatigue
Stating that adults should avoid areas with too many electromagnetic signals as much as possible, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Barış Metin said, "Especially in office workers, complaints of chronic fatigue syndrome, insomnia, attention and concentration disorders are common. People who are constantly exposed to electro-magnetic signals where they work cannot sleep efficiently at night and experience very serious chronic fatigue syndrome. These problems are very likely to be related to the wifi signal," he said.
