Shoulder pain, which occurs after excessive activity and trauma during the day, manifests itself as night pain and difficulty in doing simple daily tasks. Referring to the tradition of "massaging the shoulder" among the people, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kerem Canbora warns that unconscious massage may increase rather than decrease the pain.

Üsküdar University NP Feneryolu Medical Center Orthopedics and Traumatology Specialist Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kerem Canbora gave important information about shoulder pain.
"Shoulder pain is usually caused by overuse (such as housework, professional and sports overuse), as well as trauma, that is, after a remembered strain or fall," said Canbora,
"Night pain that wakes you up from sleep is manifested by difficulty in doing simple daily tasks (such as not being able to comb your hair or take it back)," he said.
Massaging the shoulder can increase pain!
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kerem Canbora pointed out that massaging the shoulder can activate the pain rather than reduce it,
"Unconscious shoulder movements or manipulations performed or made with massage can increase the extent of damage to the joints and rotator muscles by inducing pain," he warned.
Be careful when lifting weights!
"It is more important which muscle group is affected and how much, rather than how much weight we lift. In addition, lifting weights repeatedly, which will give excessive tension to the muscle, can cause acute or chronic damage to our muscles, especially around the shoulder," said Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kerem Canbora and concluded his words as follows:
"Although overloads are not noticed the first time, our muscles and the tendons (tendons) they adhere to are damaged.
What are the treatment methods?
The treatment of shoulder injuries varies according to the extent of the damage, the potential to affect daily life and of course the age of the patient.
If the shoulder tissues (muscles, tendons, joints or joint capsule) are severely, chronically damaged to the extent that it negatively affects daily life (such as a torn or frozen shoulder), the treatment will most often be surgical. Surgical treatment of tears and shoulder dislocations is performed with closed methods."
