SCARE (Screening Scale for Anxiety)

SCARE (Screening Scale for Anxiety)

In order to screen for childhood anxiety disorders, the Turkish validity and reliability of the study developed by Birmaher et al.akmakçı (2004), there are parent and child forms of the Childhood Anxiety Screening Scale (CAST). It is accepted that a score of 25 and above in the CATS, which consists of a total of 41 items, is a warning for anxiety disorder. The scale also includes somatization, panic, generalized anxiety, separation anxiety, social phobia and fear of school subscales.

The Turkish validity and reliability study of the scale was conducted by Çakmakçı (2004). The scale has both parent and child forms. In this study, the 41-item child form of the scale was used. In this scale, the child is asked to mark the most appropriate option for each sentence. Each item receives a score between 0-2. An increase in the total score obtained from the scale means that the level of anxiety also increases. In addition to the total score, subscale scores for panic disorder or significant somatic complaints (13 items), generalized anxiety disorder (9 items), separation anxiety (8 items), social anxiety (7 items) and fear of school (4 items) can also be calculated. The total score that can be obtained from the scale varies between 0-82, while the panic disorder/significant somatic complaints subscale score range is 0-26, and the generalized anxiety disorder subscale score range is 0-26.e scale score range is 0-18, separation anxiety subscale score range is 0-16, social anxiety subscale score range is 0-14, and fear of school subscale score range is 0-8. Birmaher et al. (1997) reported that Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient for the general scale and subscales ranged between .74-.93 and test-retest reliability coefficients ranged between .70-.90.
