Üsküdar University NPISTANBUL Hospital Internal Medicine Specialist Asst. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayhan Levent made suggestions regarding Covid-19 symptoms and what to do against the epidemic.
Attention should be paid to flu infection
Pointing out that the symptoms of Covid-19 and influenza are similar, Dr. Ayhan Levent continued his words as follows:
"If the person has symptoms of flu infection, the risk of Covid-19 should be kept in mind and should be isolated in order not to infect the close environment. In this way, coworkers and people living together are protected. In isolation at home, if possible, they should spend time in a room alone, the sink they will use should be separated and the room they are in should be properly ventilated frequently. People with suspected illness should not leave the room without a mask until they have been tested. According to the recommendation of the Ministry of Health, if there are at least 2 of the following symptoms: fever, cough, shortness of breath, muscle pain, headache, diarrhea, decreased taste and smell, the person can be tested for Covid-19. People with these complaints should go to the nearest health institution immediately."
Fish can be consumed 2 days a week against the virus
Reminding that there is no food that can prevent or treat the transmission of coronavirus alone, Levent said, "A healthy and balanced diet has been proven to strengthen the immune system along with physical activity and regular sleep. It is of great importance that the foods to be consumed are rich in protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants in terms of balanced nutrition. Vegetable and fruit intake should be prioritized, fish should be consumed 2 days a week, eggs, cheese and legumes should be consumed every day if possible. In addition to these, we recommend adequate water consumption and the use of olive oil in daily nutrition."
Supplements should not be used without examination
Emphasizing that additional supplementary vitamins and minerals should not be taken without an examination, Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Ayhan Levent said, "If there are no blood tests performed in the last 6 months, blood tests should be requested from the family physician or internal medicine physician, and in case of mineral or vitamin deficiency, vitamin and mineral supplementation should be made by the physician at the appropriate dose and duration."
