Parents Should Be Disciplined in Distance Education

Distance education, which started this week, marks the beginning of a new process for all children and families. School-age children, including university students, will continue their education through distance education for a while. Experts say that "discipline is important for motivation in distance education" and warn families to plan the daily routine according to their children. According to experts, a corner of the house should be reserved as a living space for the child, and factors that may distract the child during the lesson should be removed.

Prof. Dr. Nurper Ülküer, Head of Child Development Department at Üsküdar University Faculty of Health Sciences, emphasized that the distance education system requires a programmed and disciplined approach and that parents should first be informed about the distance education system.

Parents should prepare

Prof. Dr. Nurper Ülküer stated that families should be informed about the schedule of distance education programs, what kind of technologies are needed and how to make them available to children most effectively. "Parents should plan according to the situation of their children who will receive distance education at home while creating their daily routine. They should have study corners that will be prepared in a way that will allow them to concentrate in the best way."

Listen to these tips to ensure motivation

Prof. Dr. Nurper Ülküer listed her suggestions for parents on how to motivate children to study as follows:

  1. The time allocated for lessons should be built into the daily routine. For example, after breakfast, distance education should start at 09:00 and the child should be at the desk in front of the screen.
  2. Distractions should be removed from the environment during lessons.
  3. A suitable corner of the house should be reserved as a living space for the child.
  4. Parents should also examine the distance education system and become familiar with it.
  5. When distance education resources are insufficient, they should be helped to access information resources to find the answers they are looking for.
  6. Planning should also be made to leave time for play.
