It is useful for undecided candidates to solve a career test

The YKS process, one of the important turning points that determine the future of university candidates, has come to an end. The official preference period, which started on August 6 for millions of candidates, will end on Friday, August 14. For undecided candidates who leave their preferences to the last day, experts advise them to choose half as high as half of their success rank, then half as high as their range and half as high as their success rank, as there are accumulations in numerical and equal weight.

The official preference process for university candidates ends at 23:59 on Friday, August 14, 2020.

Üsküdar University Educational Institutions and Guidance Services Manager Specialist. Psk. Dan. Ece Tözeniş gave important advice for candidates who still have difficulty in choosing a department and remain undecided days before the official preference period is completed.

"It is useful for undecided candidates to solve a career test"

Uzm. Psk. Dan. Ece Tözeniş drew attention to the points that students who still have not made a preference should pay attention to in the last two days before the end of the preferences:
"Preferences end as of 23.59 on August 14th. If there are still undecided candidates, if they still do not have a specific department in mind, it is useful for them to solve the career test. They can access this test from the official website of Üsküdar University. After solving the career test, they can find a suitable field for themselves and include these fields in their preference lists. Or they can attend the ongoing preference and promotion days and get information about the fields they are considering face-to-face or online. They should definitely make a decision in these last two days. Those who cannot do anything should at least visit the websites of universities. Which departments are there? What are the course contents? What are the characteristics of the department? What are the graduates of the department doing? At least they should definitely do these."

"Do not rush in preferences, but do not leave it to the last day"

Ece Tözeniş warned that candidates should not rush when creating their preference list, but should also take care not to leave it to the last day, "Some system-related problems may occur in the preferences left to the last moments. These problems inevitably make the student anxious. In order not to fall into such anxiety, it is necessary not to leave the preferences to the last minute. I would like to remind students who still have not made a preference that we make preferences according to the order of success. I recommend them to make a top preference up to half of the order of success, then their own range and a lower preference up to half of the order of success. This year, there are accumulations especially in numerical and equal weight. The wider the range of preferences, the healthier it will be," he said.

"Do not include the department or university you do not want in your preference list!"

Tözeniş emphasized that students who have completed their preferences should make their last checks confidently and that they should not include any department or university they do not want in their preference lists and said, "Before sending the preference form to ÖSYM, they should ask themselves the following questions: Will I be happy if I study in all the departments I include in my preference list? Will I be satisfied with whichever preference I have in this list and will I go and study? They need to look at these," he said.

"Be sure to read the special conditions and explanations"

Secondly, Ece Tözeniş stated that she strongly recommends candidates to look at the special conditions and explanations before sending their preferences and said, "They should definitely read the special conditions and explanations for each department because there may be details that are sometimes overlooked. Some departments may have weight, age or special health conditions. Candidates need to pay close attention to these because if they cannot meet these special conditions when they settle, unfortunately, they lose their chance to enroll. Thirdly, especially if they are going to study outside the city, the department they will study in some universities may be in a different part of the city. So it is very critical to check the special conditions. At the moment, candidates think that they will go wherever they want to go, but they may not want to go after they are settled. But after they are settled, whether they register or not, their secondary education achievement scores drop by half in the following year and this unfortunately creates a loss for the student."

"Graduating is a decision that should be considered as sensitive as making a choice"

Tözeniş pointed out that many students think about graduating after the results are announced, but this is a decision that needs to be considered very carefully: "Students need to think very carefully about graduating because having a school and being able to do something is a situation that disciplines the student. When the student is in school, he/she adjusts the time he/she goes to school and the time he/she works accordingly, but since there is no school from the moment he/she graduates, he/she needs to manage his/her time very well. They need to use their time efficiently and never give up on their planning. If they can do these things, if they are confident in themselves, they can graduate. Of course, if he/she has a really clear goal and does not want anything else, graduation can be considered. If he has reviewed all the alternatives, if there are things that can be done, I recommend him to consider those alternatives because we don't know what will happen next year. There is a pandemic this year, it continues. Therefore, we cannot see the next process, there is uncertainty. Therefore, they need to think about graduation as well as the sensitivity we show when making a choice."
