Algerian Soufyane Bouraba (33), who lived on medication for years thinking that she had toothache, regained her health with the operation of a spinal surgeon in Istanbul.
She got rid of her pain with neurosurgery
Bouraba, who went to a doctor in Algeria two years ago due to toothache, was treated with medication for the pain thought to be caused by his wisdom tooth. But despite the medication, the pain intensified and started to affect the patient's head. Bouraba applied to NPISTANBUL Hospital Brain, Nerve and Spinal Cord Surgeon Prof. Dr. Mustafa Bozbuğa on recommendation. The patient, who was diagnosed with 'Trigeminal neuralgia', a rare nerve pressure, regained his health after the operation.
'Do not confuse it with toothache'
Stating that very severe pain is experienced in cases of trigeminal neuralgia and is often confused with toothache, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Bozbuğa said, "Trigeminal neuralgia is severe facial pain at the point where the trigeminal nerve, one of the cranial nerves, exits the brain stem, usually caused by compression of an artery. The only symptom of the disease is severe pain."
