It can carry all the symptoms of depression, including thoughts of worthlessness, sadness, pessimism, irritability, decreased sexual desire, decreased work performance, being touchy, decreased interest in previously enjoyed activities, and heavy responsibilities."
It is more common in women
Stating that daylight and seasonal changes affect our mental state, Asst. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emre Tolun Arıcı said, "Changes in hormones in the brain are effective in the emergence of spring depression. In addition to being more common in women, those with a family history of mood disorders and those who have had depression before are more at risk. Medical conditions such as thyroid hormone disorders, vitamin deficiencies, anemia can trigger spring depression."
Beware if it lasts longer than a few weeks!
Assist. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emre Tolun Arıcı said, "It is useful to consider depression in case of malaise, weakness, sleep appetite changes that last more than a few weeks," and said that if left untreated, it can become chronic without healing for months.
Assist. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emre Tolun Arıcı said the following: "Depression that starts in spring can last until the end of summer. Similarly, depressions that start in the fall may take until the end of winter to recover. In this case, it is necessary to consult psychiatry specialists. While medications and psychotherapy, as well as various additional methods such as phototherapy and TMU can be treated, delayed application may make treatment more difficult."
