Beware of those on the road! Don't spoil your vacation!

Attention to those with sleep problems, experts warn. Very early mornings and night journeys are risky for long journeys by car!

Experts urge people who will go on a long journey to be careful. Because the cause of most of the traffic accidents is insomnia...

While insomnia is seen as an important factor in major industrial accidents, insomnia is also an important reason for traffic accidents. Expressing that insomnia is a great danger in traffic, Üsküdar University NPISTANBUL Hospital Neurology Specialist Dr. Önder Kuzu said that insomnia has a similar effect on the person driving a car as being drunk.

Underlining that there are 100 thousand automobile accidents, 1,500 accident-related deaths and 71 thousand injuries related to insomnia in the United States every year, Dr. Kuzu noted that research shows that the risk of accidents increases 3 to 7 times in patients with sleep apnea syndrome. Stating that sleep disorders and poor quality sleep also cause accidents and injuries in the workplace, Dr. Kuzu said that the rate of accidents is higher in employees with increased daytime sleepiness. Dr. Önder Kuzu said that people should definitely consult a sleep disorders outpatient clinic if they have problems such as problems falling asleep, sleep maintenance disorders such as frequent awakenings at night or waking up early in the morning without resting, and underlined that these symptoms may be a sign of a serious neurological or psychiatric disease. Dr. Kuzu also noted that very early mornings and night journeys can be risky during long car trips.
