The YKS marathon has come to an end. 2.5 million candidates will take the Higher Education Institutions Examination, which will be held on June 15-16, 2019. So, how should candidates evaluate this last week and the moment of the exam? Experts point out that instead of studying intensively, they should focus on question solutions and remind that they should stay away from conversations about the exam. They also give tips about the moment of the exam.
Üsküdar University Educational Institutions and Guidance Services Manager, Expert Psychological Counselor and Career Counselor Ece Tözeniş made suggestions to university candidates for the last week before YKS.
Instead of studying intensely, focus on question solutions
Underlining that the last week should be evaluated correctly, Tözeniş listed the following suggestions:
- "You should focus on question solutions instead of intensive studying.
- Solve plenty of practice exams.
- If there are subjects that are not fully settled in your mind rather than studying new subjects, complete them.
- Whatever your study system is, continue with that system until the last day.
-Take the day before the exam to rest. If you do not feel comfortable the day before, you can study, provided that it is not too intense.
Stay away from conversations about the exam!
- The day before the exam, make sure you see your exam location.
- Try to avoid conversations about the exam.
- Avoid physically and mentally exhausting activities before the exam.
- Try to go to bed early the day before the exam. Even from this week, adjust your sleep patterns according to the morning of the exam."
Prepare your Exam Entrance Document in the evening
- Prepare your Exam Entrance Document in the evening. Since 'Exam Entrance Documents' will not be sent to the candidates by ÖSYM via mail, you can print out your Exam Entrance Document from www.osym.gov.tr.
- Have your routine breakfast instead of the breakfast you are not used to on the morning of the exam.
- Choose comfortable clothes for the exam.
Be at the exam center half an hour before the exam at the latest
Üsküdar University Educational Institutions and Guidance Services Manager, Expert Psychological Counselor and Career Counselor Ece Tözeniş continued her words as follows:
- "Be at the exam center at least half an hour before the exam.
- You can do breathing exercises in case of excitement and anxiety during the exam. Relax yourself by taking deep breaths in between.
- Whatever system you apply in the practice exams, proceed with that system in the real exam.
Leave the questions you cannot do for the second round
- The round method will make it easier for you to use your time efficiently. First, go through the questions you can do, if you leave the questions you cannot do to the second round, you will avoid spending too much time on a question.
- Mark the answers first in the question booklet and then immediately on the answer sheet to avoid wasting time and the risk of slipping.
-Remember that the exam only measures your knowledge, you are more valuable than anything else."
