ATTENTION! Bags should not be heavy

With the opening of schools just days away, families took action to complete their children's school needs. Emphasizing that the choice of bags and shoes should be made correctly, experts underlined that children should not carry loads.

Üsküdar University NPISTANBUL Hospital Orthopedics and Traumatology Specialist Dr. Abdullah Şarlak made suggestions to families who will do school shopping.

Bags should not be heavy, should not be hung on one shoulder!

"Bags need to be ergonomic. The word ergonomic means suitable for the tissue and body," said Uzm. Dr. Abdullah Şarlak,

"Children should not be overloaded. In other words, children should definitely have a locker at school. Every day, they should not bring all their books, notebooks, etc. home and return to school, that is, they should not carry a load. Secondly, these bags should be hung on the back in such a way that both shoulders are equally loaded. Back pain may occur due to reasons such as wearing it on one shoulder, wearing it crookedly or carrying too many books, perhaps due to the rebelliousness of the children's age."

The biggest cause of foot pain is the wrong shoes!

Şarlak emphasized that the biggest cause of the most common foot pain in children is the use of inappropriate shoes and said, "Appropriate shoes means shoes made of soft leather in the appropriate size for the foot, with a supported sole and in which the child can be comfortable. The key point here is that the child should have at least two shoes, if possible. The day after wearing one shoe, it is necessary not to wear that shoe the next day and wait for that shoe to air out and dry and clean itself."

Look at the function of the shoe, not the pattern

Stating that care should be taken when buying shoes, Specialist. Dr. Abdullah Şarlak continued his words as follows:

"Of course, shoes are very diverse nowadays. It is necessary to pay more attention to their function rather than their color and pattern. While paying attention to the function, when the family picks up the shoe and looks at it, the shoe should not be too heavy. The sole of the shoe should be soft. In fact, many people know what we mean when we say 'orthopedic shoes', because the majority of shoes, especially sports shoes, have started to be made with orthopedic soles. This means; shoes that fill and support the support points of our feet. The middle inner part of our foot needs support the most. This support is also available in these shoes."

The apparatus placed inside the shoes are not successful!

Şarlak, who said that I have seen with my professional and personal experiences that the apparatus put into the shoes are not very successful; "Therefore, it is necessary to get it right when buying shoes. I support children to wear sneakers, and what I mean by sneakers is that they must be soft, light, the sole must be soft enough to allow the child to swing while walking and the child must be comfortable. It does not have to be branded; but when families examine shoes with orthopedic soles, they can buy all shoes with soles similar to the soles they see." He used his expressions.
