Stating that violent games lead to an increase in aggressive behavior, experts point out that children who spend most of their time in the virtual environment start to experience problems in social environments.
Üsküdar University NPISTANBUL Hospital Psychiatry Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Işıl Göğcegöz made important evaluations about game addiction in children.
Göğcegöz said, "The introduction of the Internet into our children's lives has brought many conveniences and changed the playgrounds," and added, "Our children who have difficulty getting up in front of the computer or leaving their smartphones in their hands face many negative aspects of computer games psychologically and socially."
Violent games lead to aggression
Stating that children who spend most of their time in virtual environments and with virtual individuals start to experience problems in social environments, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Işıl Göğcegöz said that these children often become lonely, "Virtual games contain more themes of violence, aggression and power. Studies show that violent computer games lead to an increase in aggressive behaviors, children who play these games are more aggressive than their peers and increase anxiety levels."
The content of games supports the addiction process
"Another danger is the placement of advertisements that are difficult to recognize in the form of 'product positioning' in computer games," Göğcegöz said:
"Thus, children who play these games feel the desire to buy new games. In this way, the addiction process is supported.
Internet addiction negatively affects the spine structure
The spine structure of our children who are constantly at the desk with the computer or on the phone in a certain position is negatively affected and various posture problems and severe back and neck pain develop."
Listen to your children without judgment
Işıl Göğcegöz emphasized the importance of communication within the family for children with Internet addiction and said, "It is important to emphasize to the child that it is important to spend productive time together." and concluded her words as follows
"Family members should be offered activities based on interaction with each other. Families should listen to their children and stay away from judgmental discourse. Games that support development should be played with the child. Computer games should be restricted and alternative activity plans should be made."
