Good news against resistant middle ear diseases

Ear tube treatment is effective in resistant middle ear infections that do not respond to drug treatment in children, stubborn middle ear catarrh and inflammation. The ear tube, which is placed in the eardrum to correct the pressure difference between the middle ear cavity and the external auditory canal, can stay between 4-6 months.

Üsküdar University NPISTANBUL Hospital Ear Nose and Throat Specialist Prof. Dr. Murat Topak said that ear tube application gives positive results in middle ear catarrh, inflammation and infections that are frequently experienced in children.

Prof. Dr. Murat Topak said that "ventilation" tubes, popularly known as ear tubes, are medical materials placed in the eardrum in order to correct the pressure difference between the middle ear cavity and the external auditory canal, generally in the form of a spool and with a channel in the middle.

It is frequently applied

Stating that ventilation tube insertion is one of the most common surgical interventions in children, Prof. Dr. Murat Topak said, "It is often used for the treatment of persistent middle ear catarrh, frequent acute middle ear infections and middle ear infections that persist after antibiotic treatment."

The benefit of the ear tube is more

Stating that ear tube application may cause some complications at different rates, Prof. Dr. Murat Topak listed them as follows:
"Complications such as ear discharge, thinning of the eardrum and superficial calcification, permanent perforation, falling into the middle ear, but the benefit to be obtained with ventilation tube application is more."

Care should be taken in the bathroom

Stating that some points should be paid attention to after the ear tube is inserted, Prof. Dr. Topak said, "In children with tubes, the external auditory canal should be closed with vaseline cotton or a suitable ear plug in the bathroom, especially in the sea and swimming pools, and water should be prevented from entering the middle ear through the tube. In addition, the follow-up program recommended by the physician should be followed."

Duration of stay in the ear 4-6 months

Stating that the tubes usually stay in the eardrum for 4-6 months and then fall off spontaneously or are removed by the doctor, Prof. Dr. Murat Topak said that the ear tube can be kept longer if the disease in the middle ear continues.
