Formalism and uniformity can be a sign of depression

Content Summary

Stating that formalism and uniformism are prominent today, experts say that uniformism can be seen in all segments of society. Stating that people who feel unworthy of themselves are wannabes, experts warn, "Feeling worthless, weak and incapable is a sign of depression."

In Iran, 29-year-old Sahar Tabar, who tried to look like Angelina Jolie, dieted for months and dropped to 40 kilograms. Tabar, who underwent more than 50 aesthetic operations, attracted attention with her latest form.

Üsküdar University NP Etiler Medical Center Psychiatry Specialist Asst. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alper Evrensel said that we live in a world where philosophy, thought and depth of meaning have lost value and formalism has come to the fore.

Formalism affects everyone

Emphasizing that the natural result of formalism devoid of content is human communities imitating the same appearance, Assist. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alper Evrensel said, "Uniformism affects almost everyone, adolescent, young or mature, male and female. Clothes, hairstyles, make-up and even facial expressions become uniform after aesthetic operations. The ease of uniformity is attractive in the face of the difficulties of creating an original value. It is like the fact that a fake is cheaper than the original object. A future where uniformity increases and originality loses value is at our door."

One should discover one's own unique values

Stating that modeling and imitation can be developmental to some extent, Assist. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alper Evrensel said, "However, imitation should remain at the level of inspiration and then a unique and unique style should be tried to be captured within its own unique values. Since every person in the world has a unique and unique fingerprint, it is possible for their style to be unique. The solution is to discover one's own unique values."

Moving away from the past life line is dangerous

Assist. Assoc. Prof. Alper Evrensel said, "If a person starts to act like a different person even though he/she is considered strange in his/her close environment, it means that there is a problem."
"Wannabe emerges in people who feel worthless. By trying to look like someone else who is more special and popular, the respect and value that person has is tried to be obtained. Feeling worthless, weak and incapable is a sign of depression. Depression is very insidious if it is masked. Although the words of appreciation received from the environment may give a false happiness at first, depression progresses. It can even lead to suicide because of the loss of dignity in the eyes of society. For this reason, it is definitely beneficial for the person who moves away from the past life line and shifts towards another line to see a psychiatrist."
