What is Robotic Surgery?

What is Robotic Surgery?

The system, also known as Da Vinci Robotic Surgery, enables surgeons to successfully perform many procedures with greater precision, flexibility and control compared to traditional techniques. The system consists of a camera arm and 4 mechanical arms to which the instruments used in surgical operations are connected. With this system, the surgeon performs the intervention with a small incision. The recovery time of the procedure is much faster compared to traditional surgery.

What are the Areas Where Robotic Surgery is Used?

Operations performed using therobotic surgery method have been successful. This method is used in many different areas. Some of the areas used in treatment are as follows;

  • Urological Surgery
  • Thoracic Surgery
  • Colorectal Surgery
  • General Surgery
  • Gynecological Surgery
  • Heart Surgery
  • Pediatric Surgery
  • Ear Nose and Throat (ENT)

What is the Difference from Traditional Surgery?

The techniques used by the surgeon during the operation in the robotic system are the same as those used in traditional surgery. The main difference is that the surgeon performs the intervention by controlling the arms from a computer console next to the operating table. The console provides a high-resolution, magnified, 3-D image of the surgical site. The surgeon can also direct and lead other team members during surgery.

What are the Benefits of Robotic Surgery?

Robotic-assisted surgery has many benefits. While the surgery is beneficial, recovery takes place in a short time and the patient's discharge time is reduced. However, the benefits of the method used can be listed as follows;

  • The camera in the robotic arm improves the quality of the image in the operation area and increases the success rate of the surgery by allowing the surgeon to take a 3D image
  • While the arms in the system can work simultaneously, it allows for techniques that are difficult or impossible to perform in traditional surgeries.
  • While the surgical method is performed by making a small incision, the pain and blood loss in the intervened area is minimal. The scar is small and healing is fast
  • Postoperative hospitalization of the patient is reduced. The patient is discharged faster.
  • It is easier to detect important tissues such as nerves and vessels in the intervention area
  • During the operation, the surgeon can examine the areas as a whole in a deep and clear way. Tissues are not damaged, reducing the likelihood of unwanted factors and side effects in the postoperative period
  • Enables operations that cannot be perceived by the human eye with a high quality image
  • Thanks to its ergonomic use, it increases the comfort of the surgeon in long-lasting operations, delays fatigue and increases the success rate.
