What are the harms of snus?

Snus is a very intense nicotine overload

Üsküdar University NPISTANBUL Hospital AMATEM Coordinator Prof. Dr. Nesrin Dilbaz said that snus is chewing tobacco.

It was claimed that the young footballer Emre Mor was accustomed to the snus substance by his manager, with whom he parted ways, and became addicted. Stating that snus is a tobacco taken orally, experts said, "Since nicotine is absorbed through saliva in snus, it reaches the brain in a very short time. As soon as the person starts using it, he/she loads as much nicotine into the body as if he/she had smoked 10 cigarettes in a row in a very short time. Snus can therefore make a person addicted in a very short time. It also causes mouth sores and cancer types."

Stating that Snus causes addiction in a very short time due to its oral intake, Prof. Dr. Nesrin Dilbaz made the following evaluations:

"With the snus substance, a large dose of nicotine is loaded at one time. When you inhale nicotine with cigarette smoke when you smoke a cigarette, it quickly reaches the brain because it enters the circulation from the lungs. But when you take it into the mouth, it is absorbed very quickly due to the mucous membrane and palate, passes into the bloodstream and reaches the brain. Therefore, as soon as you start using it, it loads as much nicotine into the body as if you had smoked 10 cigarettes in a row in a very short period of time and allows it to go to the brain quickly. It affects the areas where nicotine receptors are located in the brain as if you smoked a cigarette, but it is absorbed quickly and nicotine is absorbed for a very large amount of cigarettes. You are loading too much nicotine at the same time."

Stating that although snus is a tobacco, it is a prohibited substance in almost all of Europe except Sweden, Prof. Dr. Dilbaz said, "It is a substance used very intensively in Sweden. Some studies indicate that it has a 30% usage rate. It is possible to say that there is a very serious population that uses this substance even though they do not smoke, but it is a prohibited substance in other European countries because it is not only addictive on the nicotine side, but also has very severe side effects such as the wounds caused by chewing tobacco in the mouth, such as causing oral cancers. It causes serious wear and tear especially on those tissues. It is very difficult to notice because when you place it in the mouth, it is slowly absorbed. It creates a saliva that constantly contains tobacco color."

Stating that cigarettes, alcohol or other illegal substances affect some regions in the brain, Prof. Dr. Dilbaz said, "We call those with addiction dopamine deficiency syndrome. In other words, they use such substances in order to get pleasure in some way or to cope with symptoms such as psychiatric fear and anxiety, and eventually they become addicted."

Smoking is a gateway

Prof. Dr. Dilbaz stated that especially cigarettes are a gateway, "Because a non-smoker does not use cannabis. You have to buy this kind of illegal substance from somewhere. After a while, you get involved in such a subculture. With that subculture, the transition to cannabis or other substances can be faster."
