Famous American Psychiatry Specialist Prof. Dr. Norman Moore, who was awarded the title of "Honorary Doctorate" by Üsküdar University, pointed out the importance of integrated treatment and said that psychiatry should not be separated from other medical fields.

Üsküdar University Senate awarded the title of "Honorary Doctorate" to Prof. Dr. Norman Moore, a famous American Psychiatrist, for his Electrophysiology studies in Basic Neuropsychiatric and Clinical fields, as well as his support to Turkish Electrophysiology science, his transfer of his experiences to young colleagues in the best way, his contributions to the literature in his field and his important representation in the international arena.

Honorary Doctorate Presentation Ceremony was held at NPISTANBUL Hospital. Prof. Dr. Norman Moore, Professor of Psychiatry and Research Department Director of the Department of Psychiatry at East Tennessee State University, was presented his honorary doctorate diploma by Üsküdar University Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan.

Prof. Dr. Moore: "I am very impressed with this hospital"

Prof. Dr. Norman Moore, who visited Üsküdar University and NPISTANBUL Hospital before the ceremony, stated that the treatment facilities in the hospital equipped with the latest technology are highly developed and that he liked the hospital both in terms of technology and architecture. Prof. Dr. Moon said, "I had also seen the hospital established by Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan before. Even then, I saw that it was unique in England, America and Australia, but when I came this time, I saw that he had improved it even more. Therefore, this hospital is unique in the world. I was not only impressed scientifically, I was also impressed architecturally. I learned that the architect was Mr. Nevzat Tarhan's sister."

Stating that he was at a meeting about TMU before coming to NPSITANBUL Hospital, Prof. Dr. Moon said, "The following was discussed there. Functional MRI can divide depression into types and I thought that we could start from here, divide depression into types and continue with various chemical studies. I saw that Functional MRI studies are being done here and I told Mr. Nevzat that we can do the studies that have been done before here."

Stating that psychiatry should not be separated from other fields of medicine, Prof. Dr. Moore emphasized the importance of integrated treatment and said, "I actually meant neurology when I said integrated, but I saw that all branches of medicine were united here. When I lecture to psychiatry students, I try to explain more to those who do not want to be psychiatrists because I think they will see more psychiatric patients than others. The integration in this hospital is very important and it has embraced relationships in every aspect. There is everything here for the production of science. Who is Prof. Dr. Norman Moore?

Prof. Dr. Norman C. Moore is Professor and Director of Research in the Department of Psychiatry at the Quillen College of Medicine, East Tennessee University. He was born on August 1, 1938. He completed his undergraduate studies in medicine at Queen's University in Ireland in 1964. After completing his PhD at the same university, he trained in Psychiatry at the Royal Air Force in London. In 1990, he completed the "Advanced Training Program in Biomedical Research Management" at Harvard University. He was editor-in-chief of the journal Clinical EEG and Neuroscience for more than 10 years. Prof. Moore was one of the two scientific advisors of the big budget and international i-SPOT studies on ADHD and depression and was the principal investigator of many field studies. He led one of 15 research teams selected for a PET (Positron Emission Tomography) study in which florbetabir was used to detect amyloid in the brain.

This PET scan has proven to be as valid as an autopsy in diagnosing Alzheimer's disease.Prof. Norman Moore participated in many monoclonal antibody studies on the treatment of Azheimer's disease. These studies showed that plaques can be removed from the brain with antibodies. Monoclonal antibodies have been shown to stop the progression of the disease, especially in the early stages. Current studies are focusing on the benefits of removing plaques from patients with mild cognitive impairment before they develop Alzheimer's disease. Prof. Norman Moore is a member of the Research Committee of the Clinical TMS Society, where he studies Trans-Cranial Magnetic Stimulation therapy for severe depression.

He is the recipient of four high honorary degrees from the American Psychiatric Association and the Royal College of Psychiatrists, as well as awards from various institutions including the Mental Illness Research Award, the Exemplary Psychiatrist Award, the Distinguished Researcher of the Year Award, and the Excellence in Medical Student Education Award. Prof. Dr. Norman Moore has published 98 scientific articles.
