Covid Mutation
Covid mutation (b117) is a condition in which all viruses mutate. This can happen more in some viruses.
Viruses such as influenza virus and coronavirus can mutate more. This mutation should not always be perceived and evaluated as bad.
Sometimes this mutation, i.e. antigenic change, can also be good. This has been proven by research. Although the rate of spread is high, the death rates in people have decreased. This means that the mutated virus has a lower mortality rate. In short, the transmission rate may be higher but the mortality rate may be lower.
More transmission of the mutated virus should not be considered a bad thing. Many people can be infected with this virus, but the important thing is that it is mild. In this case, it can give us an advantage, that is, the immunity in the society is increased in this way, and naturally, as the number of people who have been ill and survived increases, it is as if the society is vaccinated naturally. This should be the most desirable situation for society.
How does the body react to covid mutation?
Covid mutation b117, if the virus has become less likely to make people sick, the body responds mildly. We were infected with the virus in 2020, that is, we got sick, but at the end of 2020, a virus with a new structure came out, we can get this virus and we can get sick again. Our body may react to this situation in the same way as it did the first time. This reaction is related to the state of the mutation.
If the virus (covid mutation) b117 has changed into a virus with a high disease-causing ability, of course we will have a more severe disease when we get it. But if it has mutated into a virus with a low ability to cause disease (covid mutation) b117 we will have a milder infection the second time we get it or the first time we get it. This is where the mutation of the existing virus is important.
Can vaccines be ineffective against mutation?
Vaccines are produced taking into account the existing virus. When we are exposed to a known virus, our body naturally produces antibodies. All of the vaccines produced are vaccines produced according to the exposed virus. These vaccines will protect people against that virus and people will gain immunity. The main purpose of the vaccine is to immunize and protect the community. Vaccines that have finished the production phase and entered the distribution phase cannot directly protect us against the new virus. This is also the case with influenza. The reason why these vaccines are given to people every year is because their antigenic structure changes. Vaccines given last year do not protect against the virus of that year. This will probably also be the case for the Covid-19 corona vaccine.
When we look at the content of the vaccine, it will have protection since the current virus is more in the world. The newly emerging virus, that is, the virus that undergoes mutation (covid mutation) b117, is less common. One hundred percent protection cannot be expected from any vaccine, but the better the percentage, the better the protection will be. Therefore, the vaccine will be protective against the most common virus in the community.
