At what age is circumcision right?
Stating that circumcision should be performed within the first 1 year of age, experts state that the most appropriate method for this age group is local anesthesia.
Experts recommend general anesthesia instead of local anesthesia due to its negative effects on psychosexual development between the ages of 2-7, and recommend the use of general anesthesia for children over the age of 7.
Üsküdar University NPISTANBUL Hospital General Surgery Specialist Assist. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Murat KOCA said that circumcision is performed for religious reasons or health reasons.
Stating that the risk of developing penile cancer and the risk of infection is higher in uncircumcised adults, Asst. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Murat KOCA said, "In Europe and America, the rate of circumcision for health reasons has increased up to 30%."
GENERAL ANESTHESIA SHOULD BE APPLIED BETWEEN THE AGES OF 2-7
Stating that circumcision should be performed within the first 1 year of age, Asst. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Murat KOCA said, "Although circumcision can be performed in any age group, it should be performed within the first 1 year of age. The most appropriate local anesthesia is performed in this age group. Local anesthesia is not recommended between the ages of 2-7 due to its negative effects on psychosexual development. There is no harm in general anesthesia in this period. In children over 7 years of age, if fear prevails, it is recommended to be performed with general anesthesia."
Drawing attention to faulty operations in circumcisions, Assist. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Murat KOCA said, "The foreskin may be incompletely cut. The penis skin may be too shortened by cutting too much. Downward curvature may have been created in the penis. A hole opening from the bottom, which we call fistula, may have developed. Serious injury to the penis may occur as a result of gangrene, which we call necrosis."
CIRCUMCISION SHOULD BE PERFORMED BY PHYSICIANS
Stating that circumcision should be performed in a sterile environment using sterile instruments, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Murat KOCA said, "Circumcision is a surgical operation. It should be done in competent hands. It should be done by physicians. Although operating room conditions are necessary and recommended, this may not always be possible because it is very common in our country."

Stating that the child to be circumcised should be examined very well, Assist. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Murat KOCA stated that the child should be informed and his anxiety should be eliminated and made the following suggestions:
"It should be known that there is no history of hypospadias (the urinary tract mouth is angled from below, not from the normal place) and bleeding.
If the child is old enough to be convinced, the truth should be told, informed and their anxiety should be eliminated. No lies should be told.
The fact that circumcision is an operation should be known and awareness should be created for families.
Families should give the importance they give to circumcision ceremonies to circumcision being performed under appropriate conditions in competent hands."
