At what age is cerebral edema seen?

Cerebral edema, which occurs with symptoms such as headache, sudden severe nausea, vomiting, seizures, facial or eye shifts, and even loss of consciousness, most commonly occurs as a result of trauma or anemia of the brain. Drinking plenty of fluids, regular check-ups, heart and lung protective exercises, and regular sports draw attention as brain health protective measures.

Cerebral edema, which came to the agenda with the illness of former CHP Chairman and CHP Antalya Deputy Deniz Baykal, can cause serious health problems up to fatal damage.

Üsküdar University NPISTANBUL Hospital Neurosurgeon Assoc. Prof. Akın Akakın gave important information about brain edema.
Stating that cerebral edema is a dangerous reaction caused by the accumulation of toxic substances or anemia after bleeding or poisoning in the brain, Assoc. Dr. Akın Akakın explained the symptoms of cerebral edema as follows:

"Headache, sudden severe nausea and vomiting, seizures, shifting in the face or eyes, and even loss of consciousness can be seen."

Edema is a risk at any age!

Stating that brain edema can be seen at any age depending on the underlying disease, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Akın Akakın said, "In general, the most common cause is trauma or anemic brain tissue. Brain edema is seen depending on the underlying disease."

Stating that brain edema can be treated, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Akın Akakın said, "Brain edema should be followed up in full-fledged hospitals in intensive care. By giving high volumes of fluid to the patients, the edema is allowed to escape into the vein. It is important that these treatments are carried out carefully, meticulously and by a specialized team."

Assoc. Prof. Akın Akakın also stated that cerebral edema can cause serious health problems up to fatal damage.

Take care of your brain!

Stating that protecting brain health is closely related to improving the quality of life, Akakın said, "Plenty of fluid consumption, regular check-ups, heart and lung protective exercises, regular sports protect the nutrition of the brain and thus its health. To protect brain health, reduce salt, alcohol, coffee and cola. Eat plenty of fruit and do sports."

Stating that it is not possible to diagnose brain edema in advance, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Akın Akakın said, "Therefore, we need to take good care of ourselves and take care of our health. Especially after the age of 50, we need to be more careful. Brain check-up, which is increasingly popular today, is gaining importance over time in terms of changing our lifestyle and reducing risks."
