What is Neck Hernia?

People working at a desk for long hours, age, eating patterns and hereditary problems prepare the ground for the muscles to lose their strength. This causes the neck hernia problem to occur. First of all, cervical hernia is a condition that occurs in white-collar workers. It occurs in all age groups, and late recognition of cervical hernia negatively affects people's daily life.

What Causes Herniated Neck?

Themain cause of cervical disc herniation is heavy loads that can damage the neck. Apart from this, stress can also be a cause. Because stress sometimes affects the nerves and can cause a cervical hernia . Sitting at a desk is another cause of neck herniation. Other reasons are making sudden, reverse movements, doing heavy sports, incorrect lying position, spending time with the phone and computer, sitting in the same position all the time, massing the neck, sitting on a desk.Being constantly exposed to air conditioning, smoking, having a long and thin neck structure, genetic factors and performing a profession that will damage the neck and cervical discs are among the factors that cause cervical hernia. We can list the causes of cervical hernia as follows;

  • Impacts to the neck as a result of various accidents
  • Lifting weights in an unbalanced way
  • Sitting for long periods of time
  • Stumping the neck
  • Decreased fluid in the discs due to aging
  • Unconscious sports and exercises

How is a Herniated Cervical Hernia Treated?

Cervical hernia surgery is an operation to eliminate the hernia in the neck, which relieves the patient's pain and eliminates complaints. It is the last recommended treatment method in the treatment of cervical hernia. The severity of the patient's cervical hernia symptoms may indicate the need for surgery. In other words, the degree of cervical hernia is the important issue. We can list the neck hernia surgery methods as follows;
Anterior cervical discectomy is the most common method of cervical herniated disc surgery. It is a cervical hernia surgery performed to eliminate the compression of the cervical hernia on the spinal cord and nerve roots.
Anterior cervical corpectomy is a cervical herniated disc surgery performed together with cervical discectomy in cases where there are discs at several levels and these discs compress the spinal cord.
Posterior microdiscectomy is a method of cervical hernia surgery performed through a vertical incision made in the middle or edge of the neck. This surgery is a preferred method for soft discs and calcifications formed on the edge outside the spinal cord.
Posterior cervical laminoplasty; more than two laminae are removed to widen the canal and the plate is attached with screws.
