Rhythm Disorder

Rhythm Disorder

An arrhythmia is an irregular beat in the heart's rhythm, known as an arrhythmia. Arrhythmia is a disruption of the coordination of the heart rhythm.

What is a Rhythm Disorder?

Arrhythmia is known as disturbances in the heartbeat. A healthy heart beats between 60-100 beats per minute. However, in people with arrhythmia, the heart rate may be below 60 or above 100. A slow heartbeat is called bradycardia, while a fast heartbeat is called tachycardia. Arrhythmia is not just a slow or fast heartbeat. An irregularly beating heart also has a rhythm disorder. Pauses during the heartbeat are rhythm disturbances.

What are the Symptoms of Rhythm Disorders?

  • Shortness of breath and difficulty in breathing
  • Chest pain occurs and this pain may also radiate to the left arm
  • Feeling of tightness in the chest
  • Palpitations are felt in the heart
  • Feels like fainting
  • Dizziness is among the most common complaints
  • Severe heart palpitations may occur
  • Fainting or blackouts occur
  • Start sweating
  • General fatigue is felt
  • A feeling of dizziness occurs
  • Loss of consciousness may occur
  • Heart beating too fast is a sign of arrhythmia
  • A slower than normal heartbeat is also a sign of arrhythmia
  • Irregular heartbeat is felt, it does not beat in a certain rhythm

It is among the symptoms of arrhythmia.

What are the Causes of Arrhythmia?

  • Advancing age (sometimes not related to age)
  • Congenital or acquired heart diseases (heart failure, cardiovascular diseases...)
  • Cigarette smoking
  • Alcohol use
  • Drug use
  • Anemia and vitamin deficiency
  • Stress
  • Psychiatric illnesses such as depression
  • Anxiety (anxiety disorder)
  • Extreme heat
  • Too much tea and coffee consumption
  • High or low blood pressure
  • Weight problems such as obesity

Arrhythmia can occur for these reasons or for no reason at all.

Can Arrhythmia be Treated?

If rhythm disturbances are caused by external factors, external factors must be kept under control for its treatment. Giving up habits is largely therapeutic for arrhythmia. In other words, reducing or quitting smoking, alcohol and caffeine can cure arrhythmia. If the arrhythmia is caused by a problem such as obesity, it is necessary to get rid of excess weight. But it is not always so easy to treat arrhythmia. If the cause of the arrhythmia is heart-related problems, such as heart failure or vascular occlusion, these conditions can be treated with surgery. In short, the determining factor in the treatment of arrhythmia is the cause of the arrhythmia.
