Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by significant deficits in social interaction/communication and stereotyped behaviors. As a spectrum, individuals in this group may have different levels of deficits or disorders in different areas.
Autism Behavior Checklist (ABC, Krug, Arick, and Almond 2008). In this study, a pilot level validity and reliability study was conducted for the Turkish adaptation of the Autism Behavior Checklist (ABC, Krug, Arick, and Almond 2008).
The scale developed by Krug and colleagues (1993) and briefly called ABC is among the scales frequently used in many countries for screening and evaluation of education in autism (Bildt et al. 2005, Eaves et al. 2000, Sevin et al. 1991). ABC is one of the five subscales of the Autism Screening Instrument for Educational Planning (ASIEP-2). The other subscales of ASIEP-2 measure verbal behavior, interaction, learning speed and educational performance. The ASIEP, which was first published in 1978, was re-published in 1993 with the name ASIEP-2 without any changes in the scale by adding the findings of the studies conducted during this period (Krug et al. 1993). ABC is a 57-item assessment tool consisting of five subscales: sensory (9), relationship building (12), body and object use (12), language skills (13), social and self-care skills (11). The lowest score that can be obtained from the scale is 0 and the highest score is 159. One of the most important advantages of the ABC is that it is an easy-to-administer tool that allows information to be obtained from both teachers and parents (Krug et al. 1993).
