Acrophobia (fear of heights) Treatment

In most cases, acrophobia can be treated with psychological treatment (psychotherapy) such as exposure therapy, virtual reality exposure or cognitive behavioral therapy.

Exposure Therapy
It is a treatment method used in the treatment of some phobias. Individuals with phobias often avoid and stay away from being involved in the situation they fear. Therefore, they do not face this phobia to overcome their fear and do not learn that the consequences they fear usually do not materialize.
Therapists and psychologists use exposure therapy for individuals with phobias to gradually make them willing to engage in situations that make them anxious, so that they can learn to cope and remain in that state.

Exposure with Virtual Reality
With virtual reality applications, situations that arouse stress and anxiety in the person are simulated and it is aimed to cope with these situations. It is a kind of psychological treatment method. They are applications in which real but fake events are experienced. Research on this subject shows that virtual reality exposure therapy is effective in overcoming fear of heights.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive behavioral therapy helps the patient to gain a different perspective by talking to the patient and asking questions. Cognitive behavioral therapy teaches the patient how fears are caused by which situations, what they feel when they are exposed, how to react to stress and anxiety, and how to cope with these situations.
