What are Eye Diseases? Symptoms and Treatment Methods

Eye disorders are physical diseases that develop due to environmental or hereditary factors and can cause various vision problems. Any kind of disorder that can occur in the eyelids, the membrane of the eye known as the transparent layer that protects the eye against external factors, the tear ducts, the lens of the eye or the nerve tissues surrounding the eye is called eye diseases.

What are the Symptoms of Eye Diseases?

As the eyes are one of the most important sensory organs of the body, the symptoms of eye diseases can be easily recognized, as any problem that occurs in the eyes can cause visual impairment or stinging, burning and similar complaints in the eye;

  • Eye heaviness and pain
  • Sensation of a foreign body in the eye
  • Tearing of the eyes, intense lacrimation
  • Burring of the eyes
  • Intense eye itching, redness and burning
  • Reduced vision
  • Eyelid drooping and eyelid swelling
  • Don't squint

What are the Causes of Eye Diseases?

Eye disorders vary according to hereditary or environmental factors. Common eye disorders are as follows;

  • Being in too little or too much light that makes it difficult to see
  • Developing eye damage after a foreign body in the eye
  • Negative effects of sinusitis, headaches, flu, colds and febrile conditions
  • Dryness problems in the eyes
  • Diseases such as diabetes, heart disease
  • Hereditary factors

What are the Types of Eye Diseases?

In addition to many congenital eye diseases, there are eye problems caused by the use of televisions and smart devices that are increasing with the developing technology;

Glaucoma (Eye Pressure): Structural blockage in the channels that release the fluid in the eye causes the fluid to be excreted less and the intraocular pressure rises. Increased eye pressure leads to loss of nerves in the eyes, causing problems such as blurred vision, intense head and eye pain.

Cataracts (Blindness of the Eye): Cataract, which is more common in older ages and in individuals with diabetes, is an eye condition in which the lens of the eye loses its transparency. In this case, painless and rapid loss of vision, glare and intense sensitivity to light develop.

Color Blindness: It is a vision problem that develops due to the absence or insufficient amount of special pigments that cause the separation of colors in the visual center and is generally genetic. Color blindness generally occurs with the inability to distinguish one or more of the colors red, green and blue.

Strabismus Strabismus, which is usually congenital or occurs as a result of accidents or febrile diseases, can be expressed as an eye problem that prevents the two eyes from looking at a certain point in parallel.

Allergic Conjunctivitis: It can be stated that common eye disorders develop due to eye allergies.

Ectropium: Eyelid sagging, which develops due to advanced ages, is a common eye problem known as the reversal of the eyelid.

How are eye diseases diagnosed?

Symptoms such as blurred vision, intense eye pain, headache, nausea, redness and swelling of the eyes may indicate the presence of an eye condition. Correct identification of symptoms is crucial for effective diagnosis and treatment. The correct diagnosis is determined by tests or controls performed by ophthalmologists together with the symptoms.

How are eye diseases treated?

Eye diseases that cause narrowing of the visual tissue affect daily life badly, so it is very important to choose the appropriate treatment. Different treatment methods have been developed for congenital eye diseases and vision problems caused by environmental factors. Treatment techniques such as the use of glasses, medication or surgical operation can be applied by a specialist for the treatment of eye problems that are accurately diagnosed with a detailed eye check.

It should be considered that eye problems that cannot be effectively treated with appropriate diagnosis can lead to rapid loss of vision, and eye control and specialist control should not be interrupted at the appropriate frequency.
