As the Toxicology Laboratory at NPİSTANBUL Hospital, our goal is to expand our test panel by keeping up with the latest scientific and technological advancements and to continuously improve the quality of our services through our trained and experienced staff.

What Is a Toxicology Laboratory?

A toxicology laboratory is a specialized medical facility used to detect the presence and quantity of toxic substances, drugs, and other chemicals in biological samples. These laboratories play a critical role in assessing patients’ health conditions, investigating cases of poisoning, detecting substance abuse, and providing evidence in legal proceedings. Tests conducted in toxicology laboratories are performed on blood, urine, saliva, hair, and other biological samples and are of great importance for both medical and forensic purposes.

In these laboratories, various tests are performed to detect and quantify alcohol, drugs, and other toxic substances. Tests such as the ethyl glucuronide (EtG) test for alcohol, the amphetamine test, the benzoylecgonine test, the buprenorphine test, the cannabinoid test, the MDMA (ecstasy) test, the opioid morphine test, pethidine test, synthetic cannabinoid test, emergency rapid toxicology test, ketamine test, and blood alcohol concentration (BAC) test are commonly performed in toxicology laboratories.

What Tests Are Performed in a Toxicology Laboratory?

Some tests commonly performed in toxicology laboratories are as follows:

Ethyl Glucuronide (EtG) Test: Used to detect alcohol consumption. Ethyl glucuronide is a byproduct of alcohol metabolism and remains in the body after alcohol consumption. This test can detect alcohol use even days later.

Amphetamine Test: Performed to detect stimulant drugs. Amphetamines stimulate the central nervous system, increasing energy and alertness. This test is used to detect amphetamines and their derivatives.

Benzoylecgonine Test: Used to detect benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine. Benzoylecgonine forms in the body after cocaine use, and this test is used to detect cocaine use.

Benzoilekgonin Test: Used to detect the presence of benzoylecgonin, a cocaine metabolite. This test is used to detect benzoylecgonin, a metabolite of cocaine, and is used to determine cocaine use. Buprenorphine Test: Used to detect the presence of opioid medications. Buprenorphine is a medication used in the treatment of opioid addiction, and this test detects the presence of buprenorphine and its metabolites.

Cannabinoid Test: Used to detect marijuana and its derivatives. Cannabinoids are the active components of marijuana, and this test is used to detect marijuana use.

MDMA (Ecstasy) Test: Used to detect synthetic stimulants. MDMA is commonly known as ecstasy, and this test detects the presence of MDMA and its derivatives.

Opioid Morphine Test: Used to detect morphine and other opioids. This test is used to detect the presence and quantity of morphine and other opioids.

Pethidine Test: Used to detect synthetic opioids. Pethidine is a synthetic opioid used as a pain reliever, and this test detects the presence of pethidine.

Synthetic Cannabinoid Test: Used to detect synthetic cannabis derivatives. Synthetic cannabinoids are artificial versions of cannabis, and this test is used to determine the presence of synthetic cannabinoids.

Tests conducted in toxicology laboratories are of great importance for ensuring patients receive the correct treatment, identifying substance abuse, and obtaining accurate results in forensic cases. If you need to have a substance test performed, you can contact our toxicology laboratory to receive reliable and fast results.
