"Brain-Based Education" was the subject of the file of the 18th issue of Psycho Life magazine, which is published quarterly by Üsküdar University and sponsored by the Human Values and Mental Health Foundation.

7 rules in brain-based education based on 7 brain facts

Prof. Dr. Oğuz Tanrıdağ, Head of Üsküdar University Department of Neuroscience and Neurology Specialist at NPISTANBUL Hospital, said that brain research provides important information about how education should be. Explaining the Brain-Based Learning Model, Tanrıdağ listed the 7 rules based on 7 brain facts as follows: "1. The idea that learning has no age is wrong. Learning has an age. 2. Education should be based on the language that the child hears the most in his/her environment. 3. Education should be not only verbal but also visual. 4. Education should be based on the concept of multiple intelligences, not on a single intelligence concept (IQ). 5. Education should be based on the theory of mind. 6. Education should be based on the mirror neuron reality. 7. Education should be done in a pleasurable and rewarding way."

Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan: "Being aware of our emotions is a skill that needs to be developed"

The interview with Üsküdar University Rector and Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan under the title "Can emotional literacy be learned?" is among the interesting topics of PsychoLife. According to Tarhan, being able to recognize our emotions is a skill that needs to be developed rather than an innate trait. It is also your most natural right to stay away from the environment that does not accept your emotional existence. Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan says, "Recognizing our emotions, taking responsibility for our emotions, being able to distinguish between emotions and thoughts, taking emotions into account when making decisions, understanding the emotions of others, transforming our anger into energy, in short, being able to read and understand both our own and others' emotions, and using them for our happiness and success... There is no need to be a psychologist to achieve these; it is enough to be aware."

Prof. Dr. Sultan Tarlacı: "The non-verbal part of intelligence has always been neglected"

Üsküdar University NPISTANBUL Hospital Neurology Specialist Prof. Dr. Sultan Tarlacı emphasized the importance of "Right Brain Oriented Education" and drew attention to the negligence of modern education on this issue. Prof. Dr. Tarlacı said, "The left brain hemisphere provides verbal communication, while the right brain hemisphere provides non-verbal communication. Science and (modern) education have always neglected the non-verbal part of intelligence. The consequences of neglecting the right half of the brain should not only be thought of as fewer artists or creative souls. Neglecting the right brain at the individual level means neglecting the right brain of the family, groups, communities and society in the long term. On a societal level, the result of neglect can only be a society with a left-brain dominated mentality," he warned.
