The Importance of Father in Child Development

Stating that communication with the father is important in terms of the development of the child's characteristics such as self-confidence and leadership, feeling safe and reducing anxiety, experts said, "The presence of the father contributes to the individualization of the child by preventing the child from being too "glued" with the mother. A consistent and supportive father makes it easier for children to adapt to the rules."

Üsküdar University NPISTANBUL Hospital Specialist Clinical Psychologist Asst. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mine Elagöz Yüksel said that the father has a special place in the development of the child.

Father is very important in personality development

Assist.Assoc.Prof. Dr. Mine Elagöz Yüksel stated that with the increase in the number of working mothers today, the traditional structures of families have changed and the father has a more active role in the care of the child and said, "The father has a very important role in every period of child development. Every child needs a loving, caring and supportive father."

SECURE ATTACHMENT IS NOT ONLY WITH THE MOTHER

Stating that research has revealed the importance of communication with the father in terms of the child's personality development, self-confidence and leadership, Assist.Assoc.Prof. Dr. Mine Elagöz Yüksel made the following evaluations:

"From the birth of the child, the father's support for the mother, making the mother happier and helping her, ensures the positive development of mother-child attachment.

The father is an important attachment figure like the mother. Children who have secure attachments with more than one person are more harmonious in their friendships in the future.

The presence of the father contributes to the child's individualization by preventing the child from being too "attached" to the mother.

Although the profile of the "unquestioning father who has the last word" has decreased with the changing world, the father continues to be an authority figure, and a consistent and supportive father makes it easier for children to adapt to the rules.

SOME AUTHORITY IS ESSENTIAL FOR SELF-CONFIDENCE DEVELOPMENT

The presence of an authoritative and supportive father helps the child to express himself more easily and to develop self-confidence.

Increased self-confidence contributes to the development of leadership qualities, which in turn helps children to better cope with the stressors they face in life.

The presence of a father also affects children's identification and relationships with other individuals. The relationship between fathers and daughters, who serve as a model for boys, determines the quality of future relationships with the opposite sex.

The presence of the father makes the child feel safe and reduces anxiety.

The fact that fathers are more encouraging and entertaining in one-to-one games than mothers contributes to children's growth in a stimulus-rich environment and to the development of intelligence."

MOTHER AND FATHER SHOULD BE IN HARMONY

Assist. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mine Elagöz Yüksel reminded that in order for all these effects to occur, the mother should encourage the father-child relationship from birth, the mother and father should be in harmony and there should be a happy and peaceful home environment; in divorced families, the mother and father should act in harmony in matters related to the children.
