Penn Alcohol Craving Scale

Penn Alcohol Craving Scale

The PAAS is a 5-item self-report questionnaire developed to assess the severity of alcohol craving (frequency, intensity, duration, resistance and general craving) for the previous week. The Penn Alcohol Craving Scale (PAAS) was developed by Flannery et al. Each item is rated between 0 and 6 points. Thus, the maximum total craving score is 30.

The PAAS has demonstrated excellent reliability and good construct/discriminant/ discriminant validity. The Turkish version of the scale was found to be valid and reliable in inpatient male alcohol addicts.

The Cronbach's alpha value of the Substance Craving Scale, which is an adaptation of the scale for non-alcohol addicts, was found to be 0.84 for the whole scale. Corrected item-total correlation values for each item ranged between 0.75 and 0.82.

Multi-item craving scales were found to be more reliable than single-item craving scales.

reported.Among the multi-item craving scales developed to date, the PAAS has the fewest items, i.e. It is a scale that takes a shorter time to administer but has proven superior to single-item scales because it contains many items. The PAAS

It was found to have high validity and reliability (27).The PASI determined craving better than the other two multi-item craving scales

(21). The PAAS has also been used in efficacy evaluation studies of anti-craving drugs. In our study, it was found that the Turkish version of the PAAS was an easily applicable and reliable scale and determined alcohol craving within one month.
