This system, which is used for psychiatric and neurologic purposes in many countries around the world, is first implemented with psychiatric purposes in Turkey by our institution Memory Center. Our hospital and Üsküdar University Etiler Polyclinic acquired and included this system to their treatment equipment.

What is Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)?

TMS therapy is a system which activates the natural electricity of brain by applying a magnetic field without directly administering electrical current to the brain. Possible effect mechanism activates the ion chanells that operates with dependence to the voltage available on brain cell membranes and facilitate the effect mechanism of drugs. It increases the drug sensitivity which we call receptor sensitivity. The scientific knowledge supporting the fact that it resyncnhronizes the traffic maintaining the synchronized functioning of the brain is gradually increasing. Due to the fact that it can be used in pregnant and breastfeeding mothers and there is no need to narcotize the patient; it has become a good alternative for psychiatric cases where the patient resist the treatment. According to the treatment protocol, generally 15 sessions are recommended. Up until today, in NPISTANBUL, its use is considered for cases of anxiety, auditory hallucination (Schizophrenia), Depression, Eating Disorders, Bulimia, Epilepsy and Seizures, Headaches such as migraine, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and tinnitus where the patient is resistant to treatment. While in Canada it can be used as the primary alternative even in cases where the patient is not resistant to the treatment , NPISTANBUL uses this practice with the patient’s consent where there is a resistance to the treatment.
