DTMS / dTMS applications in obesity treatment

TMS / dTMS applications in obesity treatment

One of the obesity treatments used in our patient is Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (dTMS). In this treatment, the insula area is stimulated to lead to suppression of the desire for food, eliminating the desire for food and relieving the obese person from eating attacks.

dTMS treatment consists of a total of 15 sessions in 3 to 5 weeks. The sessions take about half an hour with preparation. Before the sessions, patients are shown pictures of food, triggering the desire to eat, and then brain stimulation is given. The aim of showing a picture of the food before brain stimulation is to stimulate the brain cells responsible for eating so that treatment is more effective. Brain stimulation given during Sessions does not cause a dangerous side effect in people without brain diseases, and stimulation is not painful.

during dTMS treatment, dietitian opinion and diet program should also be applied. A previous study of dTMS Administration found that patients with dTMS had more weight loss and decreased desire to eat than patients who did not have dTMS.
